Full Job Description

Job title -Registered Nurse (RN) – Case Management / Utilization Review

Location-Bakersfield, CA
Job duration -13 weeks with possible extension (BI02)

Schedule

Monday – Friday
8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
40 Hours per Week
Rotating Weekend Coverage Required

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Case Management / Utilization Review to support patient care coordination, utilization management, discharge planning, and reimbursement compliance in an acute care hospital setting.

The ideal candidate will review admissions and continued stays for medical necessity, coordinate discharge plans, collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and ensure compliance with payer requirements and healthcare regulations.

Utilization Review and InterQual Guidelines experience are required.

Key Responsibilities

Review inpatient admissions and continued stays for medical necessity and appropriate level of care.
Evaluate medical records to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
Apply InterQual criteria and payer guidelines during utilization reviews.
Conduct concurrent reviews and communicate findings with physicians and care teams.
Develop, coordinate, and document discharge plans.
Collaborate with nurses, physicians, social workers, and ancillary departments to facilitate patient care transitions.
Identify barriers to discharge and coordinate appropriate interventions.
Ensure compliance with payer documentation requirements and reimbursement regulations.
Assist with authorization requests, reimbursement questions, and documentation requirements.
Educate providers regarding documentation standards and utilization review processes.
Analyze clinical data and prepare reports related to utilization management activities.
Support quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance efforts.

Licensure & Certifications

Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Experience

Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital RN experience.
At least 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
Minimum 1 year of Utilization Review and/or Discharge Planning experience in an acute care setting.

Minimum 2 years of Case Management experience in a clinic, physician office, or similar healthcare setting performing utilization review or discharge planning.
