JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing advance welding, fabrication, and repair work on industrial equipment, machinery, and structural components used in sugarcane milling operations. This includes fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures according to technical specifications and safety standards. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to apply various welding techniques in a fast-paced industrial environment. The position also involves handling complex tasks, troubleshooting challenging fabrication or repair issues, and implementing solutions independently while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Work is performed under minimal supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Fabricates, assembles, and repairs metal structures, components, and machinery parts used in industrial and sugarcane milling operations
- Completes project work by performing tasks such as flame cutting, bending, forming, beveling, and notching of metal
- Works from prints, drawings, and verbal instructions
- Applies a variety of welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored, as appropriate for specific tasks
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to execute fabrication and repair projects accurately
- Inspects welded components and assemblies for quality, ensuring compliance with specifications and safety standards
- Operates welding and cutting equipment, hand tools, and machinery safely and efficiently
- Utilizes standard shop hand tools, measuring devices, and equipment
- Maintains welding tools, machines, and shop equipment in safe working condition
- Maintains a clean and safe work area
- Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals
- Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Follows organizational safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- May train, coordinate, provide guidance to and review the work of lower-level staff to accomplish operational plans and results
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of welding, fabrication, farm equipment repair or related experience, including some previous lead-worker responsibility or demonstrated ability to lead the work of others;
- OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- American Welding Society welding certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual – English and Spanish
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of welding methods, materials, and shop practices
- Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to welding equipment operation
- Skill in all aspects of SMAW(stick), GMAW(MIG), and GTAW(TIG) welding, oxyacetylene welding and cutting, and air carbon arc cutting
- Skill in using mathematics required for the work
- Ability to repair, fabricate, hardface, and assemble complete structures or components of equipment, utilizing layouts and/or blueprints and following industry accepted standards
- Ability to accurately use metal forming, cutting, grinding, and shaping tools such as presses, punches, brakes, pipe benders, threaders, optical tracing tables, grinders, and drills, in order to bend, shape, and cut parts to be welded, bolted, screwed, or riveted together
- Ability to read manuals, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
- Ability to plan, assign, and guide the work of assigned staff
- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior workers
- Ability to follow public safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe manner

- Ability to maintain regular attendance to ensure efficient and effective performance of job duties

- Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment. Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
