Help Build the Most Interesting Company in America
Neu Appliance | Austin, TX
Starting Salary: $75,000 + Up to $25,000/Year Bonus
This is not a normal Marketing Director job.
We aren't looking for someone to simply manage an ad budget, schedule social posts and generate a monthly marketing report.
We are looking for someone who wants to Build a Marketing Machine for the Most Marketable Company in Texas.
Our Foundation was built to be the Purple Cow that Seth Godin wrote about
We are the purple cow in a sea of likeness.
Our industry is filled with company's that say "Well thats how we have always done it"
Our Retail Model is Revolutionary.
With anything different, it requires a powerful story to be told and understood.
And we're preparing to make video content the center of our marketing strategy at a scale and level of creativity we don't believe exists anywhere in any industry.
We've already built hundreds of videos.
We've produced commercials.
We've built an appliance-industry podcast.
We've made partnerships with the most influential people in our industry.
We've previously employed a full three-person videography/editing team.
We're in the final stages of completing our own custom content distribution software to weaponize our content and make it work for us.
The foundation is already here.
Now we need the person to share our vision and steer the ship.
FIRST, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT NEU IS
Neu isn't a traditional appliance store.
The easiest way to describe what we're building is:
The Carvana of scratch-and-dent appliances.
Scratch-and-dent appliances have existed forever.
But the traditional experience of buying one hasn't changed much.
Walk into a warehouse.
Dig through rows of appliances.
Try not to get tetnous.
Try to figure out what's wrong with them.
Negotiate a price.
Hope the machine works.
Hope someone stands behind it after the sale.
What a load of BULLSHIT!
What a terrible business. They just Discount the product until the risk is worth it........
Neu takes appliances coming from some of the largest retailers and distributors in the country and puts them through a completely different retail process.
We test them at our Industry LEADING 30k sq ft Appliance Refurbishing facility. with over 300 testing stations.
We repair/inspect them.
We grade their cosmetic condition.
We photograph the actual appliance.
We document the cosmetic damage.
We clearly explain why it's discounted.
We publish the actual inventory online.
We build warranty and service behind the product.
And we allow someone sitting on their couch to shop a scratch-and-dent appliance with a level of transparency that traditionally required walking through that shady warehouse experience.
Nobody had really built scratch-and-dent retail this way.
We didn't just want to build a better appliance outlet.
We wanted to reinvent what an appliance outlet could be.
Watch this walkthrough with Scott and Ben to understand some of the philosophy behind our retail store:
Ben & Scott — Neu Appliance Store Walkthrough
https://youtu.be/icxE4pFi9C4
That philosophy is important because our marketing shouldn't look like everyone else's either.
We sell
OUR MARKETING SHOULD BE AS DIFFERENT AS OUR BUSINESS MODEL
There are thousands of companies selling appliances.
Most market them essentially the same way.
Manufacturer pictures.
Price.
Model number.
Feature list.
Sale banner.
Maybe a Chat-GPT pic if they are feeling brave.
Repeat.
That's not what we want.
The difference between one metal box that sells for $500 and another metal box sitting beside it that sells for $2,500 is the features.
So why does appliance marketing do such a terrible job showing people what those features actually do?
Most appliance content sounds like this:
"This dishwasher has 3 racks, 42 dBA operation and advanced wash jets..."
Boring.
We want to actually SHOW people why those things matter.
If a dishwasher claims it can clean better — let's destroy some dishes and find out.
If a refrigerator claims to keep food fresh longer — let's throw some food in there with Go Pros until everything molds!
How do washers perform against eachother on a stain removal test? with actual Stains? Lets do ALL of them
If two machines make similar claims — put them against each other and unapologetically promote the winner and destroy the looser.
We are not slaves to manufacturer. Because we are Scratch & Dent ...... There is NO RULES!
Educational.
Entertaining.
Visual.
Sometimes ridiculous.
But always useful.
The product becomes the content.
Look at one of our previous experiments:
Cake or Break: ASKO vs. GE Dishwasher Duel
https://youtu.be/ZSMCYFka3wo
That's the direction.
But it isn't even close to the scale of what we want to build.
YOUR BIGGEST RESPONSIBILITY: DIRECT THE CONTENT MACHINE
You do not need to be a videographer.
You do not need to be a professional video editor.
We will build the production team around you.
We've done it before.
What you do need is vision.
What you do need is leadership
You need to be able to walk into a room with a refrigerator, range, dishwasher or washing machine, understand what makes that product interesting and say:
"Here's the video we're going to make."
Then direct a creative team to make it great.
You will help build and manage the videographers, editors, talent and resources needed to turn Neu into an absolute content production machine.
You'll own things like:
- Content concepts
- Creative direction
- Video production calendar
- Scripts and talking points
- Hooks
- Talent direction
- Production standards
- Recurring content series
- Product demonstrations
- Product comparisons
- Experiments
- Tests and challenges
- Short-form content
- Long-form educational content
- Commercials
- Sales-event creative
- Podcast content
- Content distribution
- Content performance
We don't want to make content just because somebody says we should post four Reels this week.
Every piece should have a purpose.
Attention.
Education.
Trust.
Traffic.
Sales.
Or ideally, several of them at once.
AND WE'RE BUILDING THE TECHNOLOGY TO DISTRIBUTE IT
Producing great content is only half of the idea.
Distribution is the other half.
We are in the final stages of building custom software designed around distributing our content across the Neu ecosystem.
A great refrigerator video shouldn't live in one place.
It should be connected to the products it talks about.
It should feed our website.
It should support our sales team.
It should become social content.
It should become advertising creative.
It should educate customers while they're shopping In store and online.
It should continue working long after the day it was filmed.
Our goal is to turn every great piece of content into an asset, not a post that disappears in 48 hours.
That's why this position is so important.
This person won't just manage videos.
You'll help design the system that turns content into our primary marketing engine.
YOU'LL ALSO OWN THE REST OF MARKETING
Content will be the heart of Neu's marketing, but this is still a true Marketing Director position.
You'll oversee:
Google Ads
Strategy, budgets, performance, campaigns and continuous optimization.
Facebook & Instagram Ads
Creative strategy, audiences, retargeting, campaigns and performance.
Sales Events
Developing the campaigns, offers, messaging and creative that turn an ordinary weekend into an event people actually pay attention to.
Marketing Analytics
Understanding what's producing traffic, customers and revenue — and reallocating our resources accordingly.
But we don't want these channels living in separate boxes.
The content feeds everything.
A great video can become:
- A YouTube video
- A Short
- A Reel
- A Facebook ad
- A Google campaign asset
- A product-page video
- A website educational piece
- A salesperson's tool
- An email
- A sales-event campaign
- A piece of SEO content
- A reason someone discovers Neu in the first place
One idea can become 20 pieces of marketing.
Neu Link - Our Marketing Distribution Software will help.
YOU AREN'T BUILDING THIS ALONE
This is another important difference.
Neu has been building relationships throughout the appliance industry for years.
One of our partners is Ben from Ben's Appliances & Junk, one of the largest and most influential appliance-focused creators on YouTube and a major Lowe's partner/affiliate.
Ben understands appliances.
He understands content.
And more importantly, he understands that consumers are hungry for real information about the products they're buying.
Those are the kinds of people surrounding what we're building.
We also operate our own appliance-industry podcast:
The Appliance Pulse
https://www.youtube.com/@TheAppliancePulse
And our Neu Appliance Outlet YouTube channel already contains hundreds of videos:
https://youtube.com/@neuapplianceoutlet
We've experimented.
We've learned.
We've made great content.
We've made terrible content that didn't work.
We've figured out a lot.
You're not coming here to start from zero.
You're coming here to take years of experiments, relationships, infrastructure and ideas and turn them into a serious media operation.
ABOUT NEU
Neu is an unusual company.
We're not a massive corporation.
And that's part of the opportunity.
We're small enough that your idea doesn't have to survive 14 meetings, three committees and a quarterly planning cycle before somebody lets you try it.
If we think something is a great idea:
We can go make it.
But we're large enough that there is something real here to build on.
We have relationships with major appliance retailers and distributors.
We have our own retail operation.
We have service technicians.
We have logistics.
We have software developers.
We have content infrastructure.
We have an incredibly passionate team.
And most importantly:
Customers love what we've built.
Our team regularly extracts 60-80% 5 star reviews from EVERY CUSTOMER. Because how unique we actually are.
In a business where you are primarily selling trust that is a powerful statement.
That's extremely difficult to manufacture with marketing.
You have to earn it operationally first and we already do.
Our job in marketing is to make more people aware that this company exists.
Neu Appliance Outlet is beginning to receive recognition well outside of Austin.
The appliance industry is beginning to pay attention.
We believe we're sitting at the beginning of a much bigger growth story.
We aren't looking for someone to preserve it.
We want someone who wants to pour gasoline on it.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The perfect person probably has a strange combination of skills.
Part Marketing Director.
Part Creative Director.
Part Producer.
Part Performance Marketer.
Part Mad Scientist.
You understand numbers.
But you also understand why people stop scrolling.
You can analyze a Google Ads campaign and then walk into a content meeting and come up with ten ways to demonstrate why a $3,000 refrigerator is different from a $900 refrigerator.
You don't necessarily need to operate the camera.
But you know when the shot sucks.
You don't necessarily need to edit the video.
But you know when the edit is boring.
You don't have to personally do everything.
You need to know what great looks like and be capable of leading people toward it.
THIS PROBABLY ISN'T FOR YOU IF...
You believe marketing means posting three times a week on Facebook.
You need an agency to tell you what our strategy should be.
You want to inherit the exact marketing system someone else already built.
You are uncomfortable experimenting.
You're afraid of ideas that might fail.
You hate being around people who challenge ideas.
You need six months of research before trying something.
Or you're looking for a giant corporate marketing department where every responsibility is neatly divided between 25 people.
That's not Neu.
THIS MIGHT BE PERFECT FOR YOU IF...
You've been waiting for someone to hand you a brand and say:
"Go build something incredible."
Because that's what we're looking for.
There will be resources.
There will be a production team.
There will be advertising budgets.
There will be software.
There will be inventory.
There will be data.
There will be access to some incredibly knowledgeable people in the appliance industry.
And there will be a company full of passionate people who want to see this succeed.
But there will not be a 200-page corporate marketing manual telling you exactly what to do.
That's why we're hiring you.COMPENSATION$75k Starting Salary + Up to $25k/Year Bonus
This role starts at a $75,000 base salary, with the opportunity to earn an additional $25,000 per year in performance bonuses.
Starting compensation potential: $100,000/year.
We are a growing company, and we're looking for someone who wants their career and compensation to grow alongside it.
We offer 0 benefits. No dental, no health care, no 401k
We are not at that stage in our business
The only thing is a great starting salary and an opportunity for the RIGHT person.
HOW TO APPLY
Please don't send us a generic cover letter explaining that you're a "results-driven marketing professional with a passion for storytelling."
We want to see how you think.
