Summary:

To aid in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disorders, the ECG/Stress technician performs non-invasive cardiovascular tests on a patient population and is responsible for Age Specific Criteria for Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults and Geriatrics (by orientation and yearly competency validation) in a variety of settings in the hospital including all nursing Units, O/P Testing areas and the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities:

1. Performs diagnostic testing and completes required documentation within the Cardiac Services Department. · Performs or assists with the following diagnostic tests: electrocardiograms, Holter monitor application and scanning, Treadmill Stress Test, Nuclear Stress Test, Stress Echo and Pharmacologic Stress Test · Is available for STAT studies · Responsible for electrocardiograms done within the Doylestown Health system · Performs testing timely and efficiently · Provides appropriate education for patients undergoing testing within the Cardiac Services Department · Completes required paperwork to maintain accurate patient records and documentation of testing performed · Accurately completes and files departmental forms · Scans and reviews scanned reports in Meditech as needed. 2. Promotes safety through adherence to protocols, policies and Joint Commission patient safety goals. · Always identifies patient correctly by name and date of birth · Adopts and practices safe work habits and acts within security guidelines. · Performs hand hygiene and adheres to all infection control policies · Verifies all patient orders prior to testing · Accurately identifies established Departmental Critical Values · Accurately notifies designated caregivers and completes Critical Values log within hospital established timeframes · Appropriately assists all patients, especially those identified as a fall risk · Stocks and cleans equipment after each use according to hospital guidelines · Promptly reports any customer complaints and incidents to Technical Director/Lead Tech · Performs monthly environment of care checks 3. Actively participates and supports departmental and organizational quality initiatives and goals. · Knowledgeable regarding Departmental quality goals and participates in data collection as needed. · Willingly accepts, supports and promotes departmental and hospital change developed through quality initiatives · Participates in Departmental and/or Hospital committees to work toward continual improvement and excellence 4. Communicates and collaborates within the department and hospital to provide supportive functions as necessary to achieve/maintain departmental fiscal goals. · Serves as a resource person assisting to resolve any ECG acquisition, performance or transmission concerns. · Responds to STATS and Codes immediately if available · Performs office functions as necessary. Answers telephones, duplicating, faxing, collating of reports, schedules appointments, files reports and performs various computer functions. · Coordinates communication between caregivers to facilitate patient testing · Participate in Departmental “Environment of Care” rounds as needed · Uses and maintains all equipment to assure proper function and patient safety and adhering to departmental policies and procedures. · Always handles patients, visitors and staff with courtesy, tact and diplomacy. · Answers telephones promptly and identifies self/department · Cooperates and assists co-workers and managers in completing work · Communicates, consults and shares pertinent information with staff and mangers in accordance with established channels and line of authority. · Carries out job duties and responsibilities through personal initiative and as directed by Technical Director/Lead Tech · Prioritizes work during busy and emergent situations by cooperatively completing duties with co-workers. · Utilizes computer within hospital assigned access level for work related purposes only · Completes work within assigned shift unless otherwise approved by the Technical Director for overtime or completion by following shift. · Utilizes materials with an awareness of costs and promoting patient safety · Attends work, reports absences, lateness and requests time off in accordance with hospital and departmental policy · Volunteers to flex or extend shifts as needed to complete daily workload or projects as requested by Technical Director · Assists in training of all Associates or students as requested 5. Maintains clinical and technical competence according to unit specific standards. · Identifies own strengths and weaknesses and actively seeks out opportunities for improvement through attendance at workshops, seminars and self-learning. · Successfully completes departmentally identified competencies yearly within the specified time frame · Constantly strives to improve job skills and productivity · Maintains skill and uses all equipment in a safe and professional manner and immediately reports all equipment malfunctions or potential problems · Can trouble shoot minor problems with equipment and has knowledge of how to contact senior staff to carry out a prompt repair · Maintains technical quality of tests performed by utilizing established procedures as outlined in the Cardiac Services Department Policy and Procedure Manual · Continues work-related education and training as indicated by attendance at courses, and in-services as available · Attends all bi-monthly Departmental meetings and/or reads and signs minutes and utilizes these meetings as an opportunity for team building and sharing of ideas and concerns ·Maintains certification if obtained · Completes mandatory competencies, RAHE and other mandatory education
