USN is seeking highly skilled NICU Level III Registered Nurses (RNs) to support critical neonatal care assignments. This specialized opportunity is ideal for experienced NICU nurses with advanced vascular access expertise who are passionate about caring for critically ill and premature newborns in high-acuity neonatal intensive care environments.
As a NICU Level III Vascular Access RN, you will provide expert clinical care to neonates while serving as the primary resource for vascular access management within the NICU. You'll perform PICC line insertions, peripheral IV placement, central line management, and advanced neonatal monitoring while collaborating closely with neonatologists and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
This role requires advanced neonatal critical care experience, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity environments caring for infants as young as 22 weeks gestation.
About the Role
As a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Vascular Access RN, you'll care for critically ill and medically complex newborns requiring specialized interventions, intensive monitoring, and advanced respiratory support. In addition to bedside nursing care, you'll serve as the unit expert for vascular access procedures and line management.
You will support neonates receiving complex therapies while ensuring safe, evidence-based care and maintaining the highest standards of neonatal nursing practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature infants in a Level III NICU
- Monitor and assess neonatal patients receiving intensive medical treatment
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and nutritional support
- Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary care teams
- Support family-centered care and educate caregivers on neonatal treatment plans
Vascular Access Expertise
- Perform PICC line insertions and maintenance
- Place and manage peripheral IV lines
- Perform central venous catheter management
- Troubleshoot vascular access complications
- Collect laboratory specimens using neonatal vascular access techniques
- Ensure compliance with central line infection prevention protocols
Advanced Respiratory & Therapeutic Support
- Manage patients receiving:
- High-Frequency Jet Ventilation (HFJV)
- High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV)
- SIMV Ventilation
- High-Flow Oxygen Therapy
- Nitric Oxide Therapy
- Monitor respiratory status and ventilator effectiveness
- Support neonatal resuscitation and emergency interventions when required
Specialized Neonatal Care
- Monitor infants receiving therapeutic hypothermia (Arctic Sun) preferred
- Support and interpret aEEG monitoring preferred
- Assist with feeding management and developmental care
- Maintain detailed clinical documentation within EMR/EHR systems
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and quality assurance standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum of 2 years of recent NICU experience
- Level III NICU experience strongly preferred
- Experience with PICC line insertion and vascular access procedures
- Strong neonatal assessment and critical care nursing skills
- Current BLS certification
- Ability to work effectively in high-acuity neonatal environments
