We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a passion for baking and pastry who is eager to learn, grow, and develop their skills in pastry arts. The Introductory Pastry Cook is an entry-level position within the pastry department, responsible for assisting with the preparation, production, and presentation of pastries, desserts, and baked goods. The role includes maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment, supporting daily operations through dishwashing, restocking, and sanitation tasks, and learning fundamental pastry techniques. This position is designed as a developmental opportunity with the potential for advancement into an Assistant Pastry Chef role through demonstrated skill, reliability, and growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in the preparation and production of pastries, desserts, quick breads, and other baked goods.
- Follow recipes and instructions accurately while developing consistency and speed.
- Learn proper techniques for measuring, mixing, baking, and decorating.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pastry station and storage areas in accordance with food safety standards.
- Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, appliances, as well as work benches, preparation surfaces, and the overall work area as needed to support kitchen operations.
- Empty trash receptacles, sweep, and mop floors to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Restock ingredients, paper goods, and other supplies to keep the stations and kitchen ready.
- Assist with inventory, ingredient rotation, and minimizing waste.
- Support the Pastry team with daily tasks and special projects.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new techniques and take feedback for skill development.
- Ensure timely production to meet service requirements and special event deadlines.
· Works varied day shift hours, beginning no later than 5:45 am, throughout the workweek, with weekend availability and some holidays.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or management responsibilities are required for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
· Strong interest in pastry arts and commitment to learning.
· Basic knowledge of baking ingredients, measurements, and kitchen equipment is a plus.
· Ability to follow directions, work in a fast-paced environment, and multitask.
· Strong attention to detail and a focus on quality presentation.
· Reliable, punctual, and a positive team player.
PREFERRED:
· Previous experience in a kitchen, bakery, or culinary school
· Associate degree (or higher) in culinary arts.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
· Excellent verbal and written communication should be professional and accurate.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
· Understanding of baking measurements and the ability to use simple math equations while using recipes.
REASONING ABILITY
· Analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
· No specific certifications or licenses are required.
· Prefer Certified Fundamentals Pastry Cook and/or Certified Working Pastry Chef.

GROWTH OPPORTUNITY
This role is intended as a developmental position. Successful performance, skill development, and commitment may lead to promotion into an Assistant Pastry Chef role.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
· Starting Hourly Rate of Pay = $15.00/hour. Following a 90-day evaluation period, the employee will be assessed on performance and demonstrated skills with the potential to receive a $1.00/hour increase.
· Medical, Dental, Vision for Full-Time Employee = employer pays a minimum of 50% of employee’s premium, indexed annually based on ACA affordability guidelines. (Part-Time Employee is not eligible for health benefits.)
· Discounts on food are offered to the Employee at the Employee’s worksite, for the Employee’s meals or breaks while the Employee is on duty.
· Flexible schedule, is determined by head pastry chef and in accordance with pastry kitchen needs.
· Holidays = Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are the only recognized holidays for the restaurants, although the Inn and Bakery are open; position availability is at the discretion of the Director of Operations and the General Manager.
