About the Role

The Senior Writer is responsible for producing high-quality, long-form book content and coaching a small group of junior writers to meet Viident’s standards. This role carries direct responsibility for the integrity of manuscripts and the protection of Viident’s quality and brand standards.

The Senior Writer leads book projects from early drafts through revision, working from incomplete or high-level inputs and shaping them into cohesive, on-voice manuscripts. They are trusted to identify weaknesses in structure, narrative, or tone and resolve them independently before content advances through the editorial process.

This role requires sound judgment, strong editorial instincts, and the ability to deliver under pressure in a deadline-driven publishing environment.

Core Responsibilities

Draft and develop complete book manuscripts, including original writing and substantial rewrites
Reshape and elevate existing drafts to meet Viident’s standards for clarity, tone, and audience alignment
Identify and resolve structural, narrative, and voice-related issues with minimal guidance
Ensure consistency in voice, style, and messaging across assigned projects
Coach a small group of junior writers by providing direction, feedback, and guidance to elevate writing quality and support professional growth
Collaborate with editorial leadership and senior leadership, incorporating direction while providing thoughtful recommendations
Serve as a quality checkpoint before manuscripts move forward in the publishing process
Conduct research and fact-checking to ensure accuracy and credibility
Provide informal mentorship and constructive feedback to writers through collaboration and example
Meet deadlines where delays directly impact production schedules and brand trust

Editorial Scope

The Senior Writer’s responsibility extends through manuscript drafting and revision rounds. Following editorial review, manuscripts may return to the Senior Writer for final revisions or approval prior to advancing.

Qualifications

Publishing-specific writing experience required
Demonstrated experience writing long-form content
Strong command of structure, tone, and audience awareness
Ability to work effectively with incomplete, evolving, or ambiguous inputs
Proven reliability in meeting deadlines under pressure
Clear, professional communication with editors and leadership
