Job Overview
Syracuse Dermatology is a patient-centered dermatology clinic founded by a local board-certified dermatologist (Dr. Mark Ash). We are seeking a reliable, organized, and friendly Dermatology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our growing team. This role includes both clinical support and administrative responsibilities as needed.
Responsibilities
- Performs medication preparation and administration under physician direction and within the RN’s scope of practice (e.g., local anesthetic, biologics, etc.).
- Provides patient education for self-administration of biologic medications and performs post-procedure wound checks as directed.
- Performs nurse-level clinical triage for patient phone calls/messages and thoroughly documents all triage phone calls in the EMR system. Seeks out the direction of over-seeing provider as appropriate.
- Room patients promptly; obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, allergies, and chief complaints.
- Assist providers during dermatologic procedures, including biopsies, excisions, and electrodesiccation and curettage (ED&C).
- Document patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR) and provide scribe support as trained.
- Prepare, clean, and restock exam rooms; maintain clinical supplies and inventory.
- Enter orders, prescriptions, and dermatopathology requisitions with accurate body-site documentation.
- Provide patient education on wound care, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions; complete follow-up calls as directed.
- Greet patients, manage check-in and check-out, answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and verify insurance information.
- Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, documentation requests, and payment processing.
- Adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, and clinic safety standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the assigned dermatologist, the Registered Nurse (RN) serves as the clinical lead for medical assistants and licensed practical nurses, providing day-to-day clinical and administrative workflow oversight, guidance, training, performance feedback, problem-solving assistance, and staff support. The RN does not have hiring, firing, disciplinary, or other employment-related authority.
In this capacity under the clinical direction of the assigned dermatologist and the administrative guidance of the Medical Director, the RN:
- Provides day-to-day workflow oversight, training, guidance, and support to clinical staff.
- Reinforces clinical protocols, safety standards, OSHA/HIPAA compliance, and clinic policies.
- Communicates workflow issues, training needs, and performance concerns to the Medical Director.
- Provides input on staff development and performance evaluations as requested.
- Assists with staff scheduling and workflow planning for efficient patient care.
- Participates in required training and staff meetings.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
- Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse in New York State required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous dermatology, primary care, outpatient specialty, or procedure-based clinic experience preferred.
- Prior experience assisting procedures preferred.
- Prior experience serving as a clinical lead or team lead preferred.
- Prior experience with electronic health records (EHR) preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and active-listening skills.
- Professional, patient-focused, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Schedule
- Full-time position: Monday–Friday
- No nights, weekends, or major holidays
- Shift end-times may vary and some days may require staying later for patient care
Physical Requirements
- Standing / walking most of the day
- Repetitive hand use; lifting up to 20 lbs
- Use of PPE to protect against exposure to typical clinical materials (per OSHA standards)
