Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Financial Controller to lead our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all accounting functions, manage compliance with regulatory standards, and provide strategic financial insights to support organizational growth. Your expertise will drive accurate financial analysis, streamline processes, and uphold the highest standards of financial integrity across our organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence financial strategy within a mission-driven environment committed to transparency and excellence.

Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Manage the full spectrum of accounting activities including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cost accounting analysis.
Ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements and other regulatory standards relevant to nonprofit and governmental accounting sectors.
Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, including balance sheet reconciliation and financial report writing.
Supervise and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in accounting systems, Excel data analysis, and financial software utilization.
Conduct cash management, treasury management, and forecasting to optimize organizational liquidity and financial stability.
Oversee regulatory reporting obligations, internal controls, and audit processes to maintain transparency and accountability.
Implement and monitor internal controls for regulatory compliance accounting, technical accounting issues, and international accounting standards where applicable.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on budgeting, financial analysis, cost control initiatives, and strategic planning efforts.

Experience

Proven experience as a Financial Controller or in a senior accounting leadership role within nonprofit or governmental organizations.
Extensive knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Strong background in managing accounting teams with demonstrated leadership in finance team management.
Expertise in financial software systems such as ERP solutions or specialized accounting platforms; proficiency in spreadsheets and Excel data analysis is essential.
Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping, account reconciliation techniques, and financial concepts including debits & credits.
Experience with public accounting practices is advantageous; familiarity with cost accounting analysis and technical accounting issues is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to perform complex financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and financial management tasks with accuracy.
