Direct BuyerJob Summary

NTN Driveshaft, Inc., a leading manufacturer in the automotive industry, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Direct Buyer to join our Purchasing team. This position is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing direct production materials and managing transportation-related spend that supports manufacturing operations. The Direct Buyer works closely with suppliers, logistics providers, production, planning, and engineering to ensure the uninterrupted flow of materials while meeting quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of purchasing experience managing direct materials and transportation spend within the automotive or manufacturing industry. Automotive industry experience is preferred. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to grow their procurement career in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Responsibilities

Procure direct production materials and components required to support manufacturing operations.
Manage transportation and freight spend, including carrier selection, freight negotiations, and transportation service agreements.
Develop and execute sourcing strategies for direct materials and transportation services that support business objectives.
Solicit supplier quotations, evaluate proposals, negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and commercial terms to achieve the best overall value.
Create and manage purchase orders using ERP systems such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle, AS400, or similar platforms.
Collaborate with Production Planning, Logistics, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to ensure material availability and on-time delivery.
Monitor supplier and carrier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Analyze purchasing and transportation data using Microsoft Excel to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve supplier performance.
Maintain accurate purchasing records, contracts, supplier documentation, and ERP data while ensuring compliance with company purchasing policies.
Support inventory optimization by balancing material availability with inventory targets.
Research market trends, raw material pricing, and transportation conditions to support sourcing decisions and minimize supply chain risk.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement efficiency, supplier performance, and overall supply chain effectiveness.

Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Purchasing, Logistics, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
1–3 years of purchasing experience managing direct materials and transportation spend within the automotive or manufacturing industry required.
Automotive manufacturing purchasing experience is strongly preferred.
Experience working with suppliers, freight carriers, and logistics providers.
Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, inventory control, and transportation processes.
Experience using ERP systems such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle EBS, AS400, or similar purchasing software.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
Excellent negotiation, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with supplier performance management and strategic sourcing.
Knowledge of transportation regulations, freight management, and logistics best practices.
Experience supporting lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Familiarity with automotive supply chain requirements, scheduling, and production planning.
