Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and experienced therapist to lead an after-school therapeutic program for elementary-aged children. This position is ideal for a clinician who enjoys working with children in a group setting and is passionate about helping youth build emotional regulation, social skills, and healthy coping strategies through engaging, hands-on activities.

The therapist will facilitate therapeutic groups, create a positive and structured environment, collaborate with staff, and support children with social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate therapeutic curriculum for elementary-aged children that aligns with the program's clinical goals.
Create engaging weekly lesson plans and activities focused on emotional regulation, coping skills, social skills, problem-solving, mindfulness, self-esteem, healthy peer relationships, and resilience.
Facilitate therapeutic group sessions using evidence-based interventions and interactive activities.
Provide individual therapy sessions to children, as clinically indicated, to address specific treatment needs and support progress toward individualized goals.
Adapt curriculum and therapeutic interventions to meet the developmental, behavioral, and emotional needs of participants.
Manage group dynamics and implement positive behavior management strategies to foster a safe and supportive environment.
Build strong therapeutic relationships with children and maintain a structured, engaging, and trauma-informed setting.
Complete all required clinical documentation, including treatment plans, progress notes, and other records, in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with program staff, families, schools, and other providers to coordinate care and support each child's treatment goals.
Participate in program planning, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing evaluation of curriculum effectiveness.
Maintain ethical and professional standards in accordance with Ohio licensing requirements and agency policies.
Manage crisis situations with crisis intervention techniques and conflict management strategies to ensure safety and stability for children.
Collect data on program outcomes and child progress to inform treatment adjustments and improve service quality.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed in Ohio (LISW, LPCC, LSW, LPC, or MFT). Candidates working toward independent licensure may also be considered.
Experience providing therapy to elementary-aged children is strongly preferred.
Experience facilitating therapeutic groups is required.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and evidence-based interventions.
Experience using CBT, DBT-informed skills, play therapy techniques, or social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies.
Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Skills

Proven experience working with children, youth therapy, or child & family counseling in diverse settings.
Strong knowledge of trauma-specific interventions, mental health assessments, and evidence-based practices.
Familiarity with medical documentation standards, HIPAA compliance, clinical ethical guidelines, and medical terminology related to mental health care.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while providing culturally sensitive counseling.
Skilled in crisis management, conflict resolution, motivational interviewing, DBT, and gender issues counseling.
Excellent communication skills for client engagement, case management, and collaboration with families and multidisciplinary teams.
