Full Job Description

Medical Office Assistant

Canyon Eye Associates is seeking a dependable, friendly, and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our team. This is a patient-facing position that combines receptionist responsibilities with patient account and billing support. The Medical Office Assistant will work closely with the billing department and Practice Administrator to help ensure patient accounts are accurate and patients receive knowledgeable, professional assistance with their scheduling, billing, and account needs.

Responsibilities

Answer incoming phone calls and assist patients in a friendly and professional manner.
Schedule and reschedule patient appointments.
Receive and process incoming patient referrals.
Assist patients with questions regarding appointments, insurance, billing, payments, and account balances.
Review patient accounts and ledgers for accuracy and identify discrepancies that may require correction or further review.
Post patient and insurance payments accurately to patient accounts.
Review insurance payments, adjustments, and patient responsibility to help ensure account balances are accurate.
Work closely with the billing department and Practice Administrator to identify and resolve account discrepancies and billing concerns.
Collect and process patient payments.
Maintain accurate patient information and documentation within the practice management system.
Provide professional and courteous assistance to patients both in person and over the phone.
Assist with additional duties as requested.

Qualifications

General medical billing knowledge is required, including the ability to review patient accounts and understand insurance payments, adjustments, and patient responsibility.
Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
Experience reviewing patient account ledgers and payment posting preferred.
Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize account discrepancies.
Excellent telephone, communication, and customer-service skills.
Ability to explain billing and account information to patients clearly and professionally.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Comfortable working with computers, electronic medical records, and practice management systems.
Ability to work effectively in a busy, patient-focused medical office environment.
Dependable, professional, and willing to assist in different areas of the practice as needed.

Experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or another specialty medical practice is a plus.

Pay: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour
