Landscape Construction Sales & Project Manager
Company Overview
We are a Christ-centered, family-owned and veteran-owned business serving Central Ohio. Jesus Christ is at the center of who we are and why we work. We believe that ultimately we work for Him, and we strive to live out His teachings in the way we conduct our business and serve others.
Our culture is built around servant leadership and putting others before ourselves. We seek to serve our customers, coworkers, vendors, crews, and community with integrity, humility, honesty, hard work, accountability, forgiveness, and genuine care for others.
We are not perfect, and we do not expect our employees to be. We do expect every member of our team to respect our Christ-centered mission and contribute to a culture where we seek to do what is right, take responsibility for our actions, help one another, and treat every person with dignity.
Our faith also influences how we structure our work. We are closed every Sunday to worship God and provide a day for faith, family, and rest. We also close for approximately two weeks during Christmastide, providing our full-time employees paid time away from work to celebrate Christmas and spend time with their families.
Our family of companies provides landscape materials, outdoor living products, design, construction, and installation. This allows us to help customers with everything from solving everyday property problems to creating complete outdoor living environments.
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced landscape or construction professional—not simply a salesperson.
This is a unique position combining sales, estimating, design, customer service, and project management. You will own the customer relationship from the initial appointment through successful completion of the project.
You will meet customers at their properties, listen to what they are trying to accomplish, evaluate existing conditions, identify potential problems, develop practical solutions, prepare estimates, sell the work, and then manage the customer relationship through completion.
Our work is diverse.
One appointment may involve a substantial patio, deck, pavilion, outdoor kitchen, or complete outdoor living space. The next may involve solving a downspout or drainage problem, installing river rock, replacing sod, repairing an existing patio, constructing a fence, or addressing another exterior property need.
We want someone who understands how things are built, can recognize problems in the field, enjoys finding solutions, communicates well, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
What You’ll Do
Consult, Estimate & Sell
- Meet with residential and commercial customers at their properties.
- Listen carefully to understand their needs, concerns, budget, and goals.
- Evaluate measurements, grades, drainage, access, existing construction, and site conditions.
- Identify potential construction or drainage issues before work begins.
- Develop practical solutions and recommendations.
- Accurately measure and document projects.
- Prepare accurate estimates and professional proposals.
- Explain options clearly so customers can make informed decisions.
- Present and sell projects while maintaining appropriate margins and treating customers honestly.
- Follow up consistently on open proposals and opportunities.
Design & Visualization
Not every project requires formal design work or a rendering. Many projects can be estimated and sold using measurements, photographs, product selections, and a clear written scope.
When visualization will help the customer understand the project, however, you must be able to:
- Develop basic project layouts and concepts.
- Create drawings when appropriate.
- Produce professional project renderings.
- Revise designs when necessary.
- Help customers select appropriate products, materials, colors, and finishes.
Project Management & Customer Ownership
Selling the project is only the beginning.
You remain responsible for the customer relationship through completion.
Responsibilities include:
- Confirming final project details and selections.
- Coordinating material requirements.
- Working with crews, subcontractors, suppliers, and company operations.
- Coordinating scheduling and project timing.
- Communicating proactively with customers.
- Responding to customer questions and concerns.
- Addressing unexpected field conditions.
- Preparing and communicating change orders when necessary.
- Helping solve problems rather than passing them to someone else.
- Conducting final walkthroughs when appropriate.
- Ensuring outstanding items are addressed.
- Helping secure final payment.
- Making sure the customer is satisfied with both the project and their experience with our company.
We value people who take ownership. “That’s not my job” is not how we serve one another or our customers.
Types of Projects
Our projects can range from relatively simple service work to substantial outdoor living construction.
Projects may include:
- Paver and natural stone patios
- Retaining walls and seat walls
- Steps and walkways
- Decks and railings
- Fencing and privacy structures
- Pergolas and pavilions
- Outdoor kitchens
- Fire pits and fireplaces
- Drainage and downspout solutions
- Grading and water-management issues
- River rock and decorative stone
- Mulch and landscape installation
- Sod and lawn restoration
- Patio cleaning, restoration, and repair
- Demolition
- Landscape and construction repairs
- Miscellaneous exterior construction
Experience in every category is not required.
What is important is having a strong construction foundation, sound judgment, the ability to understand how things go together, and the willingness to continue learning.
Technology, AI & Design
We believe technology should help talented people perform at a higher level.
This position requires someone who is comfortable with technology and willing to actively embrace artificial intelligence as a professional tool.
We expect our team to continually look for better and more efficient ways to serve customers and perform their work.
AI and other modern technology may be used for:
- Construction and product research
- Estimating and bid preparation
- Developing project solutions
- Preparing proposals
- Creating project concepts
- Producing renderings when appropriate
- Drafting and improving customer emails
- Researching unfamiliar construction situations
- Comparing products and alternatives
- Organizing project information
- Improving customer follow-up
- Learning new products and construction techniques
You do not need to be an AI expert when you arrive.
You do need to be curious, coachable, technologically comfortable, and willing to learn how AI and emerging technologies can help you perform your job better.
Retail & Business Development
Our companies work together, and this position is not limited to scheduled residential appointments.
As business needs require, you may also:
- Assist customers on our retail sales floor.
- Help walk-in customers with outdoor living products, materials, and project questions.
- Develop relationships with contractors and other trade professionals.
- Develop commercial and property-management opportunities.
- Build relationships with builders, HOAs, and other organizations.
- Follow up with previous customers and unsold opportunities.
- Generate referrals and repeat business.
- Support our Landscape Supply and Outdoor Living Store operations.
- Help identify new opportunities for our family of companies.
During slower periods of the year, these responsibilities become an increasingly important part of the position.
Schedule & Seasonality
This is a full-time, year-round position in a highly seasonal business.
Spring and summer can be extremely busy. Candidates must understand that our customers often need to meet outside traditional Monday-through-Friday business hours.
You must be very open to working Saturdays, particularly during our busy season.
During peak periods, flexibility, hard work, and additional hours may be necessary. Overtime is paid when applicable.
Fall and winter provide more time for:
- Business development
- Customer and proposal follow-up
- Product and construction training
- Vendor training
- Technology and AI development
- Improving estimating and design skills
- Retail sales
- Developing contractor and commercial relationships
- Improving our processes and systems
Sundays & Christmastide
We are closed every Sunday.
We believe Sunday should provide our employees an opportunity to worship God, rest, and spend time with their families.
We also close for approximately two weeks during Christmastide, providing our full-time employees paid time away from work to celebrate Christmas and spend time with their families.
Who We’re Looking For
We strongly prefer someone with meaningful real-world experience in one or more of the following:
- Landscape construction
- Hardscaping
- General construction
- Residential remodeling
- Carpentry
- Deck construction
- Fence construction
- Excavation, grading, or drainage
- Construction estimating
- Construction project management
This is not an entry-level sales position.
We are looking for someone who can walk onto a customer’s property and understand what they are looking at.
The right person:
- Understands construction and how projects are actually built.
- Can identify potential problems before they become expensive problems.
- Is comfortable measuring and working with numbers.
- Can learn or already understands construction estimating.
- Has strong attention to detail.
- Can translate a customer’s ideas into a practical solution.
- Can create drawings and professional renderings when required.
- Communicates construction concepts clearly to homeowners.
- Is personable and comfortable selling without using high-pressure tactics.
- Is organized and follows through.
- Takes ownership of problems.
- Can manage multiple customers and projects simultaneously.
- Works well independently while remaining part of a team.
- Is comfortable with computers, mobile technology, software, and AI.
- Is willing to learn new products and construction methods.
- Is flexible during our busy season and very open to Saturday work.
- Treats customers, coworkers, crews, vendors, and subcontractors with dignity and respect.
- Understands that success comes from serving others while maintaining high standards and personal accountability.
Compensation
This is a full-time, year-round hourly position.
Base Compensation
$35–$40 per hour, depending upon experience and qualifications.
Our target for a highly qualified candidate is approximately $37 per hour.
Overtime is paid when applicable.
Performance Compensation
In addition to hourly compensation, this position includes performance compensation tied to individual sales production and project profitability.
The incentive structure is designed to reward both:
- Generating and closing business.
- Selling and managing profitable projects.
Based on individual annual sales production ranging from approximately $800,000 to $1.6 million, a successful employee could reasonably expect total annual compensation in approximately the $90,000–$115,000 range, depending upon experience, sales production, profitability, and hours worked.
Our goal is to provide a compensation structure where exceptional performance is rewarded while the employee is also fairly compensated for the additional hours required during our busiest periods.
What Success Looks Like
Success here isn’t simply about selling the most work.
We want someone who:
Serves customers well.
Sells profitable projects.
Communicates.
Follows through.
Solves problems.
Takes responsibility.
Continues learning.
Embraces technology.
Helps coworkers.
Keeps their word.
And ultimately leaves customers, coworkers, and the people around them better because they worked with us.
We believe our work has purpose beyond simply completing projects or making sales.
We strive to honor Jesus Christ through our work—by serving others, keeping our word, doing quality work, taking responsibility when we fall short, and treating every person with dignity and respect.
If you are an experienced construction professional who enjoys people, problem-solving, design, technology, sales, and taking ownership of projects from beginning to end, we would like to meet you.
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
