Full Job Description

Overview

Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optometric Technician, where your enthusiasm and attention to detail will directly enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. In this vital role, you will assist in comprehensive eye examinations, operate specialized ophthalmic diagnostic equipment, and support the optometrists in delivering exceptional service. This paid position offers a rewarding opportunity to develop your skills in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment dedicated to improving vision health.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for eye examinations by collecting medical histories and explaining procedures clearly and confidently.
Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as Autorefraction, Lensometry and tonometry devices to assist in diagnosing eye conditions.
Conduct ophthalmic patient examinations, including basic assessments of visual acuity, under the supervision of the optometrist.
Maintain patient confidentiality by adhering strictly to HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies at all times.
Manage electronic health records (EHR/Epic systems), ensuring accurate documentation of patient information, test results, and clinical notes.
Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting with patient intake processes.
Assist with medical office tasks such as inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and proper sterilization of medical equipment following aseptic techniques.
Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions, ensuring comfort during procedures, and fostering a welcoming environment.

Qualifications

Prior experience in medical office settings or ophthalmology clinics is highly preferred, but not required.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to the eye, and physiology principles relevant to ophthalmic examinations.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for managing electronic health records efficiently.
Experience operating ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment like tonometers, autorefractors, Optos widefield imaging, and other biometry devices.
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly to patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple responsibilities with accuracy and professionalism.
Retail or optical experience is a plus, especially if it involves optical sales or front desk duties.
