This is a strong fit for an experienced technician who wants to be trusted with real diagnostic and repair work while being part of a professional, supportive team.
Pay & Benefits
Technicians at X-tra Mile Auto Care are currently earning approximately $90,000 to $120,000 per year.

The shop operates Monday through Friday.
Technicians are generally scheduled from 7:45 AM to around 5:00 PM, giving you a consistent weekday schedule without a regular weekend rotation.
Each morning, the team reviews the schedule and builds a plan for the day. Advisors schedule by labor hours rather than simply filling the lot with cars, which gives technicians a clearer picture of the workload and expectations ahead.
What You’ll Work On
This is an experienced technician role where you are expected to diagnose and repair, not simply wait for someone else to tell you which part to replace.
The position is approximately:
50% mechanical repair
25% testing and diagnostics
25% maintenance
Technicians are expected to work independently, including diagnostics.
The vehicle mix includes domestic, Asian, European, light-duty diesel, and fleet work. Common brands include Honda, Toyota, GM, Dodge/Chrysler, Jeep, Ford, and Nissan. The shop also regularly sees fleet vehicles such as Sprinters and Isuzu NPRs.
You should be comfortable independently handling work such as:
- Brakes
- Steering and suspension
- Cooling systems
- Driveline and transmission R&R
- External engine repairs
- Timing belts and timing chains
- Starting and charging systems
- Sensor and actuator testing
- Wiring repair
- Drivability concerns
- Intermittent problems
- CAN/LIN network and module diagnostics
- Live-data interpretation
- Bi-directional controls
- Building a diagnostic plan from test results
- You will also be expected to document what you find. Repair orders and digital inspections should clearly explain the concern, what was tested, what was found, and what is being recommended. Photos are part of that process, and every completed repair goes through a quality-control check.
Tools, Equipment & Shop Environment
You are expected to bring the normal tools needed to perform your work, but you are not expected to personally own every specialty tool that comes up. The shop provides and continues adding specialty equipment as needed.
Current equipment includes:
- Snap-on Triton with lab scope
- Autel MaxiSys Elite
- ISCAN by Autoland
- BG brake, coolant, differential, power steering, and fuel-induction service equipment
- Hofmann Geoliner alignment machine
- Four-post alignment lift
- Four 10,000-lb two-post lifts
- One 12,000-lb two-post lift
- EVAP smoke machine with attachments
- Manufacturer-specific specialty tools
- Tekmetric digital workflow and inspections
The current shop is heated.
Technicians can also use the shop for personal projects within reason and outside normal business hours.
Training & Growth
You do not have to arrive knowing everything.
What matters is that you already have a strong foundation and want to keep improving it.
Technicians complete ongoing training through Today’s Class, and the company pays for ASE testing. X-tra Mile has also brought Keith Perkins from L1 Training into the shop for hands-on individualized technical training.
Quarterly development conversations are used to talk about what you want to learn, where you want your career to go, and what steps will help you get there. Leadership development is available as well. One member of the current leadership team originally progressed from technician to shop foreman, then service advisor, lead advisor, and eventually General Manager.
The onboarding process is structured too. You will be introduced to the shop, workstation, safety procedures, Tekmetric, digital inspections, quality standards, and the position playbook before being expected to simply figure everything out on your own.
The Kind of Technician Who Will Enjoy This Shop
You will probably feel at home here if you take your work seriously without taking yourself too seriously.
You should be comfortable working independently, but also willing to ask questions, share what you know, and contribute to the group. The shop regularly discusses communication and teamwork, employees recognize each other's wins, and disagreements are expected to be handled directly and professionally rather than becoming ongoing shop drama.
This is also a shop that expects follow-through. Work should be completed to OEM standards or better, test drives should confirm the repair, vehicles should leave clean, and documentation should be detailed enough that the advisor and customer understand what happened.
The technician this role is built around is organized, motivated, curious, and capable of thinking through a problem rather than simply throwing parts at it.
Requirements & Certifications
You should have a solid background as an automotive technician and be capable of performing both repair and diagnostic work with minimal supervision.
Requirements include:
- Automotive technician experience
- Ability to accurately diagnose and repair vehicles
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and repair information
- Comfort using digital repair information and shop-management systems
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet insurance requirements
- Your own basic technician tools
- Ability to work effectively with technicians, advisors, and management
- Dependability and consistent attendance
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
ASE certifications are preferred, but they are not required. X-tra Mile will support technicians in earning ASE certifications and pays for testing. A/C 609 certification is also preferred.
If you are already a capable technician who wants good equipment, clear expectations, steady weekday hours, and a place where continuing to improve is actually supported, X-tra Mile Auto Care is worth a conversation.
