Full Job Description

Technical Support Specialist

Location: Technology Dept FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Director of Technology Work Calendar: 240 days
Pay Type: Hourly (Classified Step K2)

Minimum Qualifications Associate degree from an accredited institution in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field

preferred; CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent industry certifications preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience providing technical support for computer hardware, software,

mobile devices, and network-connected technologies. (Ex: Chromebooks, Windows, Apple devices, and Google
Workspace\Microsoft 365 environments.)

Valid Georgia driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record. Must be eligible to operate Whitfield

County School District vehicles.

Goal
Provide technology support and customer service to employees, students, and other stakeholders throughout the school
district. Responsibilities include the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, upgrade, and
disposal of hardware, software, applications, and related technology systems. Technical Support Specialists are expected
to perform all duties with professionalism, efficiency, safety, and a strong commitment to customer service.

Representative Duties & Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in compliance with FERPA and district policies.

Provide technical support and exceptional customer service to students, teachers, administrators, and staff.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with hardware, software, network, applications, and peripheral

devices.

Install, configure, maintain, and support computers, printers, interactive displays, mobile devices, and other

district technology.

Assist with the deployment, configuration, and support of district software, security solutions, and technology

initiatives.

Maintain and support assigned district-wide software systems and applications.
Research and resolve technical issues independently or through collaboration with team members, vendors, and

manufacturer support resources.

Utilize a help desk ticketing system to document and track support activities.
Escalate complex issues to Lead Technical Support Specialists or other appropriate personnel as necessary.
Assist with technology installations, upgrades, relocations, and special projects at school and administrative sites.
Support users with technology procedures, data-related processes, and district-approved applications.
Assist responsible school and district personnel in maintaining an accurate inventory of all technology assets.
Assist with the removal, disposal, and relocation of technology equipment in accordance with district policies

and applicable regulations.

Review technical sources and participate in training to sustain or expand current technical knowledge and skills.

Operate district-owned vehicles safely and maintain accountability for assigned tools, equipment, and supplies.
Follow all federal, state, and local laws, as well as district policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Promote the responsible use of district resources and contribute to efficient operations.
Support and uphold district equal employment opportunity and nondiscrimination policies.
Follow work scheduling, attendance, and leave requirements in a regular, predictable and punctual manner in

accordance with school system policy and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of computer operation, troubleshooting, repair, operating systems, applications (local, networked, & web
based), user permissions, peripheral devices, networking concepts, device management, end point and end user
cybersecurity practices, and technology life cycle.

Skill in effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication; user relations and assessing user needs; trouble

shooting; and problem solving.

Ability to communicate technical information effectively to users with varying levels of technical proficiency; work

independently while managing multiple support requests and priorities; provide assistance to users, systems

development staff, general and operations management; incorporate evolving information technology industry products

and services into individual roles and responsibilities; use relevant computer applications; prioritize assignments; and

manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

The following physical requirements are essential to the safe and effective performance of this duty position.

Frequently lift, carry, push, and move technology equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
Operate hand tools and equipment commonly used in technology support and installation activities.
Climb ladders, work above shoulder level, and access equipment located in ceilings, classrooms, offices, and

other facilities.

Kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, and work in confined spaces to install, maintain, and repair technology equipment.
Distinguish colors and visual indicators used in wiring, cabling, and equipment diagnostics.
Operate motor vehicles safely while traveling.
Demonstrate sufficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to install, configure, and repair technology

equipment.

Communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication methods.
