Pay Rate: $44.00 to $48.00 per hour
Client will provide truck and gas card
Per Diem: Reimbursable up to $225.00 per day (food and lodging)
100% travel
Central Region - Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois

Position Summary

The Civil Construction Field Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day field execution of civil construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards. This position provides direct oversight of field crews, subcontractors, equipment utilization, and site operations while maintaining strong communication with project management, customers, and stakeholders.

The Field Supervisor serves as the primary on-site leader and is accountable for workforce productivity, safety compliance, quality control, and schedule execution.

Key Responsibilities

Field Operations Management

Direct and supervise daily civil construction activities on assigned projects.
Coordinate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to ensure efficient project execution.
Review construction drawings, specifications, permits, and work packages prior to mobilization.
Ensure work is completed in accordance with project plans, customer requirements, and company standards.
Monitor daily production rates and adjust resources as needed to maintain schedule commitments.
Identify and resolve field issues that could impact project cost, quality, or schedule.
Maintain detailed daily reports documenting manpower, equipment, production quantities, delays, and site conditions.

Safety Leadership

Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and customer-specific safety requirements.
Conduct daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), tailgate meetings, and safety briefings.
Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns and implement corrective actions.
Maintain a zero-incident safety culture through proactive leadership and accountability.
Ensure all permits, utility locates, and environmental requirements are in place prior to work commencement.

Crew Leadership & Workforce Management

Supervise field personnel including operators, laborers, foremen, and subcontractors.
Assign daily work activities and establish clear expectations for productivity and quality.
Mentor and develop field personnel through coaching and training.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Manage workforce attendance, scheduling, and overtime utilization.
Foster a positive team environment focused on accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.

Quality Control

Ensure construction activities meet engineering specifications and customer requirements.
Perform routine inspections of completed work.
Verify grades, elevations, trench depths, compaction, and restoration activities.
Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.
Maintain project punch lists and drive timely completion.
Ensure proper documentation and closeout requirements are completed.

Customer & Stakeholder Communication

Serve as the primary field contact for customers, inspectors, utility companies, and subcontractors.
Participate in project meetings and provide field updates.
Communicate schedule risks, delays, and resource needs to project management.
Maintain professional relationships with customers and regulatory agencies.
Support customer site walks, inspections, and turnover activities.

Equipment & Material Management

Coordinate delivery and utilization of equipment and materials.
Monitor equipment productivity and maintenance requirements.
Ensure materials are properly stored, protected, and inventoried.
Minimize waste and control project costs through efficient resource utilization.
Verify equipment inspections and maintenance records are completed.

Project Controls & Reporting

Track production quantities and compare against budgeted expectations.
Provide daily and weekly progress updates to project management.
Assist with schedule development and recovery planning.
Identify potential change order opportunities and document scope changes.
Support cost tracking and project forecasting efforts.
Maintain accurate records for billing and project documentation.

Typical Civil Construction Scope

The Civil Construction Field Supervisor may oversee:

Site development and grading
Utility installation
Trenching and excavation
Conduit installation
Concrete foundations and pads
Fiber optic infrastructure
Telecommunications site construction
Shelter and equipment pad installation
Access roads and restoration work
Directional drilling operations
Erosion control and environmental compliance
Generator and fuel tank site preparation

Required Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.

Experience

5+ years of civil construction experience.
3+ years of experience leading field crews.
Experience managing multiple subcontractors and construction activities simultaneously.
Telecommunications, utility, infrastructure, or heavy civil construction experience preferred.

Technical Skills

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety requirements.
Knowledge of excavation, utility installation, grading, and restoration practices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with construction management software preferred.
