About COA:

College of The Albemarle, located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, is the state's first community college, founded in 1961. We strive to transform lives by inspiring and empowering individuals and communities of our seven-county service area. Through our four locations, we provide quality college transfer and career and technical education to residents in northeast North Carolina.

Description

This position has been designated as a critical-fill vacancy. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and the College reserves the right to close the posting and fill the position prior to the stated closing date upon identification of a qualified candidate.

College of The Albemarle (COA) invites applications from qualified individuals for the position of Program Coordinator, Nurse Aide and Health Occupations. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible faculty position responsible for providing high-quality instruction while coordinating the College's credit and non-credit Nurse Aide and Health Occupations programs. The Program Coordinator provides leadership for program operations, curriculum implementation, student success initiatives, faculty support, regulatory compliance, and continuous program improvement in accordance with College, state, and accrediting agency requirements.

Faculty assignments may include classroom, laboratory, clinical, hybrid, online, day, evening, and weekend instruction at any College campus, instructional site, or affiliated clinical location based on program and operational needs. Limited travel throughout the College's service area and to clinical partners is required.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the College's pre-employment process, verification of credentials, continued funding, enrollment, program needs, and compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and licensing requirements. Applicants must complete the online application in its entirety and upload unofficial copies of all applicable college transcripts from a regionally accredited college or university. Official transcripts and additional credentialing documentation will be required prior to employment.

In accordance with applicable state and institutional guidelines, certain positions may be eligible for recruitment, hiring, retention, or other incentive payments. Incentives are not guaranteed and are subject to available funding, institutional approval, and operational needs.

Program Coordinators receive $150 stipend in addition to their salary. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
This position may be eligible for a market premium of up to ten percent (10%) in addition to the established base salary.

Job Summary
The role of the Program Coordinator, Nurse Aide and Health Occupations is to supervise and coordinate all activities (student, faculty, and instructional) associated with the credit and non-credit Nurse Aide & Health Occupations programs and courses at all college locations.

The Program Coordinator, Nurse Aide and Health Occupations receives supervision from the Dean, Health Sciences and Wellness Programs.

Examples of Duties

Teach and maintain responsibility for overall effectiveness and coordination of credit and non-credit health and wellness-related programs, including Nurse Aide, Health Occupations, Health Science specialty College Success coursework (ACA 111 and 122)
Provide new opportunities for health occupation programs/courses to be offered for credit and non-credit in continuing education by exploring health care facilities and employees' continuing education needs
Coordinate a Health Sciences Academy for high school students interested in healthcare occupations in collaboration with Health Sciences division and Student Success and Enrollment Management (SSEM)/College and Career Promise (CCP) personnel.
Prepare and submit the annual program budge request for part-time faculty, instructional supplies/equipment and travel needed to accomplish the programs' objectives.
Manage the budget for the programs maintaining security of all program equipment.
Submit a recommended annual schedule of programs and program courses, including instructor assignments; preparing various reports/program reviews.
Maintain Full Approval Status by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for NA I and the NC Board of Nursing (NCBON) for NA II.
Teach a minimum of one NAi or NAII and on Health Science version of ACA 111 or 122 courses per semester.
Participate actively in College and department committees as assigned.
Coordinate membership and keep the nurse aide programs' advisory committees apprised of the current status of activities within the NA program and other health-related programs.
Maintain membership in appropriate professional organizations.
Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate part-time faculty.
Develop, implement, evaluate and revise the NA/Health Occupation Program's curriculum in accordance with the N.C. DHHS, NCBON and the N.C. Community College System.
Maintain awareness of and order current textbooks for all Health Occupation Programs in a timely manner. Ensure availability through the bookstore to include special program needs for all respective campus locations.
Ensure that all course syllabi for the Health Occupation programs are kept current and on file in the appropriate office(s).
Attend state, regional and local meetings that impact NA training and relevant health occupation programs.
Participate in the review and revision of the health programs' orientation.
Adhere to the policies/guidelines in the health programs' syllabi; scheduling and conducting the health programs' orientation sessions.
Participate in the selection and evaluation of clinical learning resources; establishing cooperative relationships with staff at clinical agencies; corresponding with clinical facilities in preparation of clinical rotations for health students and faculty, including criminal background checks, drug screens, orientations, etc.
Provide orientation for faculty and students of specific clinical facilities' computer documentation programs.
Communicate to staff at clinical agencies regarding objectives for student learning experiences and schedule of clinical assignments.
Collaborate with program coordinators and faculty to maintain compliance with external agencies.
Provide current clinical rotation schedule to appropriate persons. Collaborate with instructors to inform students of their progress regarding classroom/lab expectations and clinical expectations.
Provide support and guidance to instructors, intervening when appropriate, to assist with unresolved student issues.
Maintain responsibility for oversight of patient care by students during clinical; remaining responsible at all times for oversight of patient safety while students are assigned to patient or any program-related experience in the clinical setting.
Ensure student understanding and performance is in accordance with the Standard of Care.
Develop and monitor student learning and program outcomes for NA I and II. Remain on-call/available for instructors during NA classes, labs, and clinicals for all campus locations, regarding issues.
Perform other duties and assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
Credentials to meet college, accreditation, DHHS, and NCBON criteria for teaching assignments.
At least two years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States.
Meet at least one of the following:
- completion of a course in teaching adults; or
- experience in teaching adults; or
- at least 1 year (2000 hours) of experience in supervising nurse aides.

Preferred:

Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university.
At least one year (2000 hours) of registered nurse experience in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by:
- working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital; or
- supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital.

Licensure and Other Special Requirements:

Current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in North Carolina
Meet any additional requirements of his/her assigned clinical agency/agencies, including certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, TB testing, immunizations, criminal background checks, drug screens, etc.
