Job Title: Executive Director of Human Resources

Leadership Level: Team Leader Primary Function: Human Resources

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Director of Human Resources serves as the senior human resources leader for the YMCA of Greater Michiana, providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all aspects of human resources across the association. This position partners closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, and branch leadership to develop and implement strategies that support the YMCA's mission, culture, and strategic priorities.

The Executive Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading talent acquisition, employee relations, leadership development, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, compliance, succession planning, and organizational culture initiatives. The position ensures the YMCA attracts, develops, engages, and retains a high-performing and mission-driven workforce.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, this position plays a critical role in advancing association-wide initiatives and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic Human Resources Leadership

· Develop and implement a comprehensive human resources strategy aligned with the YMCA's mission, values, and strategic plan.

· Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, compensation, and culture.

· Lead initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance.

· Utilize workforce data and analytics to inform decision-making and measure organizational effectiveness.

· Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and mission advancement.

· Talent Acquisition and Workforce Development

· Develop and oversee association-wide recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies.

· Ensure the YMCA attracts and retains diverse, qualified, and mission-driven staff.

· Create and maintain leadership development programs to build internal talent pipelines.

· Oversee succession planning efforts for key leadership and mission-critical positions.

· Partner with branch and department leaders to identify workforce needs and develop staffing strategies.

Employee Relations and Organizational Culture

· Provide leadership and guidance regarding employee relations matters, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management.

· Promote a positive organizational culture rooted in YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

· Ensure consistent application of personnel policies, procedures, and employment practices throughout the association.

· Coach and support supervisors in addressing performance issues and employee concerns.

· Lead employee engagement initiatives and organizational communication efforts.

Compensation, Benefits, and Total Rewards

· Oversee compensation philosophy, salary administration, and benefits programs.

· Conduct regular market analyses to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.

· Manage employee benefits programs and vendor relationships.

· Recommend compensation and benefit strategies that support organizational sustainability and employee retention.

Compliance and Risk Management

· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

· Oversee HR policies, employee handbook administration, and policy development.

· Maintain compliance with YMCA standards, licensing requirements, and accreditation expectations.

· Lead risk management initiatives related to employment practices and workplace safety.

· Oversee personnel records, HR systems, and reporting processes.

Leadership and Team Development

· Direct and supervise human resources staff and related administrative functions.

· Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for HR team members.

· Establish performance expectations and accountability measures for HR operations.

· Build strong collaborative relationships across all branches and program areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

· Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field.

· Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive human resources leadership experience, including at least three (3) years in a senior leadership role.

· Demonstrated experience leading HR strategy, employee relations, talent management, and organizational development.

· Thorough knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and HR best practices.

· Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.

· Experience leading organizational change and culture initiatives.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

· Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training through American Red Cross is required for all employees of the YMCA of Greater Michiana, this training will be offered at no cost.

Pay: $85,500.00 - $128,000.00 per year
