Position Summary
Cannon Building, a leading general contractor specializing in life science, healthcare, commercial/institutional, and industrial sectors, is seeking an experienced Foreman.
The Foreman must demonstrate and lead with Commitment, Initiative, Integrity, and Teamwork in the execution of their duties. Serving as the primary point of contact in the field, the Foreman coordinates daily activities between crews, subcontractors, and site leadership, ensuring clear communication and alignment with project goals. They oversee field operations, maintain schedules, enforce safety standards, and uphold quality control throughout all phases of construction.
The Foreman is responsible for supporting the project team in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized job site. This includes actively managing safety practices, directing laborers, and working alongside the crew to perform laborer duties as needed. The Foreman plays a key role in driving productivity while ensuring compliance with company standards and project requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on construction experience, with existing framing and drywall experience. Life science and healthcare project experience is preferred, but not required. The Foreman may be required to take on full site responsibility in the absence of the Superintendent.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily field activities and coordinate with the Superintendent, Project Manager, Construction Manager, subcontractors, and field crew.
- Work quickly, productively, and safely while consistently meeting production goals set by the Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Maintain quality workmanship consistent with company standards, project requirements, and OSHA requirements.
- Read plans and blueprints, assist with layout, verify field conditions, and support coordination of wall layout and MEP requirements.
- Communicate clear direction to subcontractors and field crew, and confirm that expectations are understood.
- Identify work that needs to be completed, complete hands-on tasks when appropriate, or delegate work to the appropriate team members or subcontractors.
- Support field planning, sequencing, look-ahead coordination, and issue resolution to keep work moving.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site, including site setup, material staging, containment, and cleanup coordination.
- Perform hands-on construction tasks as needed, including carpentry, metal stud framing, drywall, material handling, tool setup, equipment staging, and site preparation.
- Mentor crew members and reinforce a team-first jobsite culture.
- Lift and carry drywall sheets, lumber, tools, and other materials.
- Load and unload trucks, stage materials, and protect completed or in-progress work.
- Perform all work in a safe manner to avoid personal injury, equipment damage, or project disruption.
- Maintain a strong understanding of OSHA regulations and company safety practices.
- Use basic computer, tablet, and field-reporting tools to generate daily reports and document field progress, safety items, and project issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of construction experience in a foreman, lead, or similar field role.
- Existing framing and drywall experience required.
- Life science and healthcare construction experience preferred, but not required.
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods, including carpentry, metal stud framing, drywall, containment, layout, and field coordination.
- Understanding of reinforced concrete, wood framing methods, engineering details, and basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing coordination.
- Ability to read plans, understand specifications, identify conflicts, and communicate field issues clearly.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with clients, stakeholders, team members, subcontractors, and project leadership.
- Strong safety mindset, including understanding of OSHA regulations, job hazard awareness, and company safety practices.
- Strong quality-control mindset, including ability to identify workmanship issues and support corrective action before work proceeds.
- Ability to help identify field risks, communicate them early, and support practical mitigation plans to reduce project disruption.
- Ability to understand client expectations, maintain a professional jobsite presence, and support long-term client relationships.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have reliable transportation and report to work on time as scheduled.
- Must possess a current valid California driver’s license in order to operate company vehicles.
- Must be willing to work primarily in the Placentia / OC-LA work area and attend San Diego job sites or offices as needed.
- Must be willing and able to work full-time 40-hour weeks, with overtime or adjusted hours as needed to support project demands.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a consistent basis.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and carry 100 lbs. with help.
- Must have advanced experience using common construction tools, including drills, skill saws, hammer drills, and similar tools.
- Must have experience with wall layout and MEP coordination.
- Must be proficient in building containment and understand why containment is required.
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, lift overhead, and work at heights in order to access equipment, tools, materials, and jobsite areas.
- Skills in carpentry, metal stud framing, drywall, electrical, and HVAC are a plus.
- Procore or similar field-reporting software experience is a plus.
- Must complete safety training within 6 months of hire date. (all training will be provided) Including: Scissor lift, Harness Use, First Aide, OSHA 30 & Fork Lift
Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
