About Us

Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.

FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.

About the Job

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for the overall financial health, stewardship, and sustainability of the organization. The CFO provides strategic financial leadership, oversees all fiscal operations, ensures compliance with nonprofit regulatory and funding requirements, and supports mission-driven decision-making. This role partners closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to develop long-range financial strategies, risk management structures, and organizational priorities.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and monitor financial strategies aligned with organizational mission, values, and strategic plan.
Advise the CEO, Board, and Executive Team on financial performance, risks, capital planning, and resource allocation.
Lead financial forecasting, long-term sustainability planning, and scenario modeling.
Oversee all accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, treasury functions, and internal controls.
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare and present financial reports, dashboards, and analyses to the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
Oversee annual independent audit and manage external auditor relationships.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nonprofit financial regulations, including IRS Form 990.
Maintain policies and procedures supporting strong internal controls, financial integrity, and fiscal transparency.
Monitor compliance with Medicaid billing, OMB Uniform Guidance, grant agreements, and contract funding requirements.
Oversee grant budgeting, reporting, reimbursement, allowable cost allocation, and program financial monitoring.
Support program and development teams in grant application planning and financial feasibility.
Ensure accurate tracking of restricted, unrestricted, and temporarily restricted funds.
Oversee enterprise risk management, insurance, contract review, and financial safeguards.
Ensure organizational liquidity, cash flow planning, credit access, and banking relationships.
Protect organizational assets through sound financial controls and technology systems.
Lead, mentor, evaluate, and develop fiscal department staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, ethics, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or Business (MBA/MAcc/MPA) strongly preferred.
Minimum of five years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit, healthcare, behavioral health, social services, or grant-funded environment.
Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit GAAP and fund accounting, federal and state grant regulations (including Uniform Guidance), audit oversight, Form 990 compliance, budget development, forecasting, financial analysis, internal controls, and risk management.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and present financial information to non-financial audiences.
Ability to work independently with integrity, discretion, and sound professional judgment.
Freedom from criminal convictions that may adversely affect the employee’s ability to work safely with children, contingent on a fingerprint & background records check conducted by the State of Alaska Division of Health Care Services Background Check Unit.
