Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Food Distribution Account Manager is responsible for managing the relationship between a food distribution company and its clients, ensuring smooth product flow, order taking, answering general product questions, and maintaining price levels in the ERP. Other duties also include meeting sales targets, and maintaining compliance with food safety and logistics standards.

Core Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned accounts to ensure proper administration of the account, building and maintaining strong relationships with retail, food service and/or wholesale clients
Sales & Revenue Goals: As part of the sales team, assist in developing and executing sales strategies to meet or exceed annual revenue and budget forecasts
Order & Logistics Coordination: Work with suppliers, transport providers, and warehouse team to ensure timely, compliant delivery of food products. This also includes reviewing and/or creating incoming orders/invoices for accuracy in product selection and pricing based on customer history.
ERP maintenance: Work closely with sales and operations team to ensure data integrity within the ERP. This includes pricing validation, appropriate item descriptions, and customer connectivity.
Account Planning: Lead the account planning cycle, identify upsell opportunities, and align on service and product needs. This also includes finding new ways to better service client accounts through technology and distribution.
Problem Resolution: Address client complaints, delivery issues, or quality concerns promptly with operations and the main sales representative assigned to the account.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in food distribution, food wholesale, grocery retail or foodservice sales; logistics and/or warehouse management experience preferred
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science, Supply Chain, or related field strongly preferred, or experience meeting these qualifications.
Technical Skills: Demonstrated proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Excel (pivot tables/data migration), and inventory management software
Soft Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership abilities; ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities
Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, HACCP) and distribution best practices

Typical Work Environment

Setting: Food distribution corporate office with occasional travel to visit customer locations.
Workload: Combination of sales, logistics coordination, and client service; may require travel to client sites.
Tools: CRM/ERP platforms, inventory management systems, transport scheduling software, and reporting dashboards.
