Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Caregiver/care provider documenting all care, observations, and assistance in medical record. Documentation is completed in real time.
Follows hospital policies
Coordinates with health care team members to notify of patient’s needs, including pain
Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Assisting with monitoring I & O and documentation of it in medical records
Assisting RN with obtaining vital signs and immediately documenting in the medical record at the bedside
Obtaining blood sugars on diabetic patients, and reporting results to RN’s
Provides personal hygiene care ensuring patients have been bathed/showered, provided oral care, peri care in AM and HS as indicated per shift worked. Cares for dentures. Performs catheter care following hospital procedure.
Assists with tasks as assigned by Resource RN or Primary Care nurse
Makes bed occupied and unoccupied, neatly.
Passes meal trays/snacks, ensuring the patient is positioned properly and food is within reach.
Feeds patient when necessary in a non-rushed, pleasant manner.
Performs hourly rounding and answers patient call lights promptly. Anticipates patient needs by offering supplies, warm blankets, and other needs prior to asking in order to promote comfort and reduce the need for utilizing call lights. This aids in patient satisfaction and noise reduction for all patients.
Straightens room, makes sure call light and bedside stand are within patient’s reach. Provides fresh drinking water to all assigned patients as permitted by patients’ diet orders.
Assists patient in ambulation, out of bed activities, range of motion, and moving to chair for meals utilizing proper body mechanics when re-positioning a patient or transferring patient from one surface to another.
Cleans utensils and equipment properly.
Assists with the admission and discharge of patients as requested by the nurse.
Observant of changes in patient’s condition and reports them promptly to RN.
Knows proper use and application of patient-safety devices.
Demonstrates knowledge of the supportive equipment, which is used, on the nursing unit.
Gives written and verbal reports, which are pertinent, precise, and complete.
Organizes time and activities effectively for giving nursing care.
Economical in the use of supplies and equipment.
Stocks rooms and equipment as assigned.
Assists nursing staff throughout Med Surg and ICU.
Respond to critical alarms per hospital policy with immediate nurse notification
Observes lines of communication appropriate to the circumstance.
Identifies need for change and initiates these to improve patient care.
Remains composed and directive during emergency and stressful situations.
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent
State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or relative clinical experience
Excellent communication skills
Organization/time management skills
Computer skills
Ability to work independently or as a team, self motivated

Preferred:

Previous experience in an acute care facility

Certifications and Licenses Requirements:

Required:

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or relative clinical experience
Current BLS* Certification

*BLS certification is required upon hire.
