Full Job Description

Position Summary

Valley Manufacturing is seeking an experienced CNC Gantry Mill Operator to set up, operate, and maintain large-format CNC gantry milling equipment. This position is responsible for machining precision components, including large fabricated and welded assemblies, while maintaining quality, safety, and production standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong blueprint-reading skills, experience with tight tolerances, a solid understanding of tooling and machining practices, and the ability to work independently in a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC gantry mill equipment to produce parts according to prints, work orders, and engineering specifications.
Operate large-format CNC equipment, including FLEX CNC or similar gantry-style machines.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and GD&T callouts.
Load, align, and secure large parts, plates, tubing, and welded assemblies for machining.
Select, install, and touch off tooling as required for each job.
Monitor machine operation and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
Hold tolerances commonly within +/- .005", depending on part requirements.
Make basic machine offsets and minor program adjustments as needed.
Troubleshoot machining, tooling, setup, or program-related issues and communicate with supervisors or programmers when needed.
Safely handle large parts using forklifts, cranes, hoists, or other material-handling equipment.
Perform routine machine maintenance and keep the work area clean and organized.
Maintain accurate production, inspection, and job records.
Follow all company safety procedures and manufacturing standards.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 3 years of CNC machining experience preferred.
Experience operating gantry mills, large CNC routers, or large-format CNC machining centers preferred.
Experience with FLEX CNC, Fanuc, Haas, or similar CNC controls preferred.
Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
Ability to set up jobs, indicate parts, touch off tools, and make basic offsets.
Knowledge of tooling, feeds, speeds, and machining practices for aluminum, steel, and other common materials.
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
Ability to inspect parts and verify dimensions using precision measuring equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Must be dependable, safety-minded, and quality-focused.

Preferred Skills

Experience machining large fabricated or welded components.
Experience working with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, tubing, plate, and welded assemblies.
Ability to make basic G-code edits.
Forklift and/or overhead crane experience.
Experience working in a job shop or OEM manufacturing environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
