6-12 Academic Advisor
Location: SLAM Palm Beach Middle /High
Reports To: Principal / Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position
Position Summary
The Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising and support for students in grades 6–12. This position works collaboratively with administrators, teachers, parents, and support staff to monitor academic performance, develop student success plans, coordinate graduation requirements, and promote student achievement.
Due to the essential functions of this position and the regular communication required with students and families, fluency in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) is required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group academic advising for students in grades 6–12.
- Monitor student academic progress, attendance, behavior, and graduation requirements.
- Develop and maintain individualized academic success plans.
- Assist students with course selection, scheduling, and long-term academic planning.
- Review student transcripts and verify promotion and graduation eligibility.
- Identify academically at-risk students and coordinate appropriate interventions.
- Participate in MTSS, Student Support Team (SST), Section 504, ESE, and other student support meetings as appropriate.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, ESE staff, ESOL staff, and families to improve student outcomes.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss academic progress, interventions, graduation requirements, and student success strategies.
- Assist students with college admissions, scholarships, Bright Futures requirements, FAFSA resources, career exploration, dual enrollment, and post-secondary planning.
- Coordinate and communicate information regarding standardized testing and graduation requirements.
- Analyze academic data to identify trends and recommend interventions.
- Maintain accurate student records in accordance with school, state, and federal requirements.
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff regarding academic progress and available resources.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Participate in professional development, school events, and faculty meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is required.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student information systems.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced educational environment.
- Commitment to maintaining student confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Florida Educator Certification in School Counseling, Guidance, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Experience working in a middle school, high school, charter school, or college advising setting.
- Knowledge of Florida graduation requirements, Bright Futures Scholarship requirements, dual enrollment, state assessments, and college admissions processes.
- Experience with MTSS, academic intervention planning, and student progress monitoring.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
