Staff Accountant

Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the day-to-day financial operations of Renewal Ranch by maintaining accurate accounting records, processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting and month-end procedures.
This position requires a solid understanding of accounts payable, expense coding, the chart of accounts, and general accounting principles. The Staff Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager/Controller and other staff to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely and in accordance with Renewal Ranch policies and nonprofit accounting practices.
The position may also provide support with human resources administration, grant-related financial reporting, and other administrative functions as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable, including reviewing invoices, obtaining appropriate approvals, coding expenses to the correct general ledger accounts, and preparing payments.
- Accurately classify and code expenses using the organization’s chart of accounts, departments, programs, classes, and other applicable tracking categories.
- Record and maintain accounts receivable, deposits, contributions, and other financial transactions.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
- Review transactions for accuracy and investigate and resolve discrepancies when necessary.
- Assist with month-end closing procedures, including journal entries, reconciliations, account reviews, and supporting schedules.
- Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, budget-to-actual reports, and other management reports.
- Assist with payroll processing and maintain accurate payroll documentation as needed.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation and filing systems for financial transactions and accounting records.
- Assist with tracking restricted funds, designated contributions, grants, and program expenses.
- Work with staff and department leaders to ensure expenses are properly coded, approved, and supported by appropriate documentation.
- Assist with annual audits, tax filings, grant reporting, and requests for financial documentation.
- Help maintain appropriate accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Assist with donor financial reporting and reconciliation of contribution activity as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of financial, donor, employee, and organizational information.
- Provide accounting and administrative support to the Accounting Manager/Controller as needed.
- Perform other accounting-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Two or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of accounts payable and expense coding.
- Familiarity with the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Experience with bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Ability to understand and prepare routine accounting and financial reports.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to research discrepancies and resolve routine accounting issues independently.
- Ability to communicate professionally with employees, vendors, donors, and management.
- Strong ethical standards and the ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
Preferred Experience — A Plus, but Not Required
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit organization.
- Familiarity with nonprofit or fund accounting, including restricted funds and program-based expense tracking.
- Experience with grant financial reporting requirements, including tracking grant expenditures, maintaining supporting documentation, and assisting with financial reports required by grantors.
- Experience assisting with grant compliance, reimbursement requests, or other grant-related documentation.
- Experience supporting human resources functions, such as employee files, onboarding documentation, benefits administration, payroll-related HR matters, or compliance documentation.
- Payroll experience.
- Experience assisting with annual audits, regulatory filings, or other nonprofit compliance requirements.

Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
