Location: Portland, OR Area
Contract Type: Part-Time 1099 Independent Contractor
Compensation: $28-29/hour + discretionary project-based performance bonuses
Schedule: Approximately 3 hours/week beginning September 2026; approximately 3 hours/week during 2027 plus occasional 10 hour weeks depending on events and active outreach projects
About Skycloud Mental Health
Skycloud Mental Health is a growing outpatient health care practice focused on providing thoughtful, accessible, evidence-informed mental health care. We offer psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, and opioid use disorder treatment.
As we continue to grow, we want to strengthen our relationships with therapists, primary care providers, healthcare organizations, and other professionals who help connect people with appropriate mental health resources.
We are seeking an outgoing, highly organized, and relationship-oriented Community Outreach & Events Specialist to help us build those connections throughout the Portland area and Pacific Northwest.
This is a flexible, very part-time independent contractor opportunity for someone who enjoys meeting people, bringing professionals together, executing great events, and turning ideas into action.
About the Opportunity
The Community Outreach & Events Specialist will work closely with Skycloud’s Pacific Northwest Clinical Director to plan and execute professional networking events, develop referral-source relationships, and identify opportunities for community partnerships.
A major goal of this position is to create opportunities for Skycloud clinicians to build meaningful relationships with other healthcare professionals.
You will often serve as the first point of connection: identifying potential referral relationships, coordinating introductions, getting the right people into the room, and making sure events run smoothly. Skycloud’s clinicians will generally serve as the primary clinical experts when discussing treatment approaches and clinical services.
You will not be expected to be a clinical expert. However, you should become comfortable describing Skycloud’s services at a general level, representing the practice professionally, answering basic questions, and recognizing when a clinical question should be directed to one of our providers.
Schedule & Flexibility
The position is expected to begin around September 2026, initially at approximately 3 hours per week while we prepare for expanded outreach efforts in 2027.
Beginning in 2027, hours are expected to fluctuate between approximately 3 and 10 hours per week depending on whether an event, outreach initiative, or partnership project is actively underway.
This is intentionally a flexible, variable-hour opportunity and may be especially well suited to someone seeking meaningful project-based work alongside other professional, educational, family, or personal commitments.
Professional networking events may occasionally take place during evenings or weekends.
For the Portland-area position, occasional regional travel may also be requested—likely approximately one to two times per year—to support an event or outreach opportunity in Washington. Travel would be planned in advance and approved by Skycloud.
Compensation
$28-29/hour
In addition to hourly compensation, discretionary project-based bonuses may be available based on successful outcomes such as:
- Successful event planning and execution;
- Strong event attendance and engagement;
- Development of meaningful referral-source relationships;
- Successful community or organizational partnership development;
- Effective follow-through after events or outreach initiatives; and
- Other measurable contributions to Skycloud’s outreach and sustainable growth.
Approved business mileage, travel, and event-related expenses may be reimbursed according to Skycloud policy.
What You’ll Do
Community Outreach & Relationship Building
- Build and maintain relationships with local therapists, primary care providers, healthcare practices, community organizations, and other potential referral partners;
- Identify professionals and organizations that may be a strong fit for a relationship with Skycloud;
- Make introductions and create opportunities for Skycloud clinicians to connect directly with potential referral partners;
- Attend professional networking opportunities and community events when appropriate;
- Follow up with referral sources and community partners after meetings and events;
- Help identify opportunities for presentations, collaborations, sponsorships, private partnerships, and other forms of community engagement;
- Develop a working knowledge of Skycloud’s services so you can confidently explain the practice at a general level and connect clinical questions with the appropriate Skycloud provider.
Events
- Plan, coordinate, promote, and execute networking events for mental health and healthcare professionals;
- Work with the Clinical Director to establish the purpose, audience, attendance goals, and strategy for each event;
- Research and coordinate venues, food and beverage, event supplies, registration, speakers, and other logistics;
- Track event budgets and expenses;
- Manage invitations, registration, RSVPs, reminders, and attendance;
- Attend events and help with setup, logistics, photography, guest experience, and teardown;
- Welcome attendees and help facilitate introductions between Skycloud clinicians and community partners;
- Help create an environment where Skycloud providers can focus on meaningful professional conversations rather than event logistics;
- Complete timely post-event follow-up and help evaluate what worked well and what could be improved.
Organization & Tracking
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activity, referral relationships, events, attendance, and follow-up;
- Use Skycloud’s CRM, spreadsheets, email, and other outreach or event-management systems;
- Track relevant information about referral sources and community relationships;
- Communicate regularly with the Clinical Director about outreach activity, opportunities, event planning, and follow-up;
- Help evaluate event attendance, engagement, referral activity, and other outcomes to improve future outreach efforts.
What Success Looks Like
We want this person to have room for creativity and initiative while also having clear goals.
Successful projects may include:
- Well-organized, professional events that people genuinely want to attend;
- Growing attendance and engagement over time;
- Strong follow-through before and after events;
- New relationships with therapists, healthcare practices, and other potential referral partners;
- More opportunities for Skycloud clinicians to connect directly with community professionals;
- Increased awareness of Skycloud within the local mental health and healthcare community;
- Meaningful referral, collaboration, or partnership opportunities;
- Accurate and useful tracking of outreach activity;
- Reliable communication, ownership, and follow-through.
Ultimately, the goal is not simply to generate as many leads as possible. We want to build genuine professional relationships that support appropriate referrals, greater access to mental health care, and ethical and sustainable growth for the practice.
Who We’re Looking For
You may be a great fit if you are:
- Friendly, outgoing, and comfortable starting conversations with new people;
- Naturally good at making people feel welcome and connected;
- Highly organized and detail-oriented;
- Reliable and strong at following through;
- Comfortable working independently without constant oversight;
- Self-motivated and willing to take ownership of projects;
- Professional and thoughtful when representing an organization in the community;
- An excellent communicator and relationship-builder;
- Comfortable balancing the “people side” of events with the logistical details required to make them successful;
- Able to recognize opportunities and suggest new ideas rather than simply waiting for instructions.
Required Qualifications
- Located in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area;
- Excellent organizational and communication skills;
- Comfortable attending in-person professional and community events;
- Comfortable initiating conversations and interacting with healthcare professionals;
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines and project details;
- Reliable transportation for local meetings and events;
- Ability to attend occasional evening or weekend events;
- Willingness to complete occasional pre-approved regional travel within Oregon and Washington;
- Ability to assist with reasonable event setup, teardown, and transportation of event or marketing materials.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in any of the following is helpful but not required:
- Community outreach;
- Event planning or event marketing;
- Healthcare or behavioral health;
- Professional networking;
- Relationship-based business development;
- Marketing or public relations;
- Sales or customer-facing work;
- Referral-source development;
- Community partnerships; or
- CRM or event-management systems.
Prior healthcare experience is a plus, but we care just as much about finding someone who is personable, organized, proactive, trustworthy, and genuinely enjoys building relationships.
The Ideal Fit
This position would be especially well suited to someone who likes having both independence and a clear goal.
You might be the person who walks into an event and naturally starts introducing people to one another, but you’re also the person who remembers that the venue contract needs to be signed, registrations need to be tracked, the food needs to arrive at 5:30, and everyone needs a follow-up email afterward.
You don’t need to be a psychiatric expert. Our clinicians will handle the clinical expertise.
We are looking for someone who can create the opportunities, build the relationships, organize the experience, and help our clinicians make meaningful connections within the community.
To Apply
Please submit your resume along with a brief introduction telling us:
- Why this type of flexible outreach and events work interests you;
- Any relevant experience you have with events, community outreach, healthcare, relationship-building, marketing, or similar work; and
- What you think makes someone great at bringing people together professionally.
We look forward to hearing from you.
