Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Superintendent / Mechanical Superintendent to join our construction team in the Austin, TX area. This role is responsible for overseeing field operations, coordinating trades and subcontractors, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed according to schedule and contract requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong field leadership experience, a solid understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems, and the ability to manage project execution from planning through completion.
Sign-On Bonus
Mechanical Superintendent candidates may be eligible for a $10,000–$15,000 sign-on bonus, to be paid in two equal lump sum amounts. The first payment will be made at the time of onboarding, and the remaining payment will be made upon completion of 8 months of employment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPromote and Enforce Safety Protocols
Lead efforts to identify, eliminate, or reduce safety hazards on project sites by enforcing safety practices, company policies, and jobsite requirements.
Manage Project Planning
Oversee planning activities to ensure team members understand contract documents, project schedules, scopes of work, and project expectations.
Apply LEAN Planning Principles
Utilize planning tools and best practices such as pull planning, work packages, lookaheads, constraint logs, and forecasting to improve project execution and workflow.
Develop Team Members
Provide leadership, coaching, and regular feedback to field personnel and direct reports to support professional growth and jobsite performance.
Understand Mechanical and Plumbing Systems
Maintain a strong working knowledge of mechanical and plumbing systems, including any certifications or licenses related to the trade.
Ensure Quality and Code Compliance
Support high levels of quality throughout planning, installation, testing, and inspection phases. Ensure work meets code requirements and that QA/QC processes are followed, including completion of QA/QC checklists.
Coordinate Trade Activities
Work closely with subcontractors, field teams, and internal departments to ensure design, planning, sequencing, and materials meet project and client expectations.
Optimize Material Flow
Monitor material flow throughout the project to support scheduled activities while minimizing waste and excess inventory. Adjust processes as needed to maintain efficiency.
Manage Tools and Equipment
Support company policies and procedures related to tool and equipment use to maintain safety, accountability, and availability on the jobsite.
Maintain Required Certifications
Hold and maintain any necessary licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant superintendent or construction field leadership experience
- Experience in a Project Superintendent, Mechanical Superintendent, or similar field leadership role
- Strong knowledge of construction management processes, means, and methods
- Experience coordinating multiple trades and subcontractors on active job sites
- Strong understanding of mechanical and plumbing systems in construction environments
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management and project management abilities
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and coordination documents, including BIM drawings, submittals, specifications, details, and job orders
- Working knowledge of the full construction process
- Ability to manage and maintain planning processes
- Competent in conflict resolution and crisis management
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 30 or other relevant safety certification
- Expert knowledge of building products, construction details, regulations, and quality standards
- Experience with mechanical and plumbing systems in commercial construction environments
- Prior experience managing mechanical scopes, piping, plumbing, HVAC, or related trade activities
- Experience using LEAN planning tools and field productivity tracking methods
Work Environment
This is a field-based position and requires walking, standing, climbing ladders, and working in varying temperatures. Travel between project sites may be required.
