Countertop Fabricator

We manufacture custom architectural woodwork, cabinetry, casework, countertops, and other specialty products for commercial projects throughout the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, and surrounding areas.

Job Summary

Northside Millwork is seeking a skilled Countertop Fabricator to join our production team. We are looking for a long-term employee with mid- to senior-level experience fabricating plastic laminate and solid-surface countertops.

The ideal candidate understands countertop construction, takes pride in producing precise and high-quality work, and can follow shop drawings and established fabrication procedures. Mid-level candidates who have a strong foundation and are motivated to continue developing their skills are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Fabricate plastic laminate and solid-surface countertops according to shop drawings and company standards.
Apply loose laminate to countertop substrates using proper adhesive and layup procedures.
Flush-route laminate and complete final trimming, filing, and finishing.
Build up countertop edges and substrates according to shop drawings and project specifications.
Fabricate solid-surface countertops, backsplashes, edges, and related components.
Complete solid-surface seams and edge glue-ups with tight, clean joints.
Fabricate and install integral solid-surface sink bowls.
Sand and finish solid-surface materials using the proper grit sequence to produce a flat, uniform appearance.
Review shop drawings, dimensions, details, and material requirements before beginning fabrication.
Develop efficient cut lists for sheet goods and countertop components.
Lay out and cut parts while minimizing material waste.
Inspect completed products to ensure they meet company quality standards and project specifications.
Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, and production issues to supervisors.
Work cooperatively with other fabricators, cabinetmakers, engineers, and production personnel.
Assist with handling, staging, and loading completed countertops as needed.

Tools and Equipment

Candidates should have experience using some or all of the following:

Hand routers
Orbital sanders
Files and finishing tools
Vertical panel saws
Table saws
Chop saws
Shapers
Solid-surface seam kits
Clamps and adhesive systems
Measuring and layout tools
Other woodworking and countertop-fabrication equipment

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of countertop fabrication experience preferred.
Mid- to senior-level experience fabricating plastic laminate or solid-surface countertops.
Knowledge of laminate layup, edge banding, routing, buildup construction, and finishing methods.
Experience with solid-surface seaming, edge glue-ups, sink fabrication, sanding, and finishing.
Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, dimensions, and fabrication details.
Ability to develop cut lists and lay out sheet goods efficiently.
Ability to cut parts accurately while minimizing material waste.
Strong measuring, layout, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to produce precise, high-quality work with limited supervision.
Willingness to learn and follow Northside Millwork’s established procedures and quality standards.
Dependable attendance and a positive, professional attitude.
Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
Ability to safely lift and carry approximately 40 to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform physical fabrication work throughout the workday.
College degree or diploma is not required.

Candidates who do not currently have experience in every listed area may still be considered when they demonstrate a strong woodworking background, mechanical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to developing their countertop-fabrication skills.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with countertop-fabrication experience and demonstrated skill level.
Overtime is paid at 1.5 times the employee’s regular hourly rate.
