Job Overview

We are seeking a full charge Construction Accountant to join our Union Specialty Contractor team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all financial aspects of construction projects, ensuring accurate accounting, cost management, and compliance with industry standards. Your expertise will help drive project profitability and support strategic decision-making through meticulous financial analysis and reporting. Duties

Manage and maintain the general ledger for construction projects, ensuring accurate recording of all financial transactions using accounting systems such as Sage, Timber Scan and Siteline.
Conduct detailed cost analysis and cost accounting to monitor project expenses against budgets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
Prepare comprehensive financial reports, including cash flow analysis, budget forecasts, and project profitability statements, utilizing spreadsheets and business intelligence tools.
Reconcile accounts payable and receivable related to construction activities, ensuring timely payments and collections while adhering to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Perform balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger accounting to maintain data integrity across ERP systems.
Support internal controls compliance by assisting with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) procedures and internal audit processes.
Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to interpret financial reports, facilitate budgeting processes, and improve cost management strategies.

Skills

Extensive experience with accounting software such as Sage or similar platforms; proficiency in ERP systems is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of financial concepts including GAAP standards, double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and technical accounting principles.
Proven ability to perform financial report writing, data analysis using Excel data analysis tools, and interpret complex financial data effectively.
Expertise in cost management techniques including cost accounting analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and cost analysis within the manufacturing or construction industry.
Familiarity with public accounting practices and internal controls related to SOX compliance.
Excellent skills in cash flow analysis, balance sheet reconciliation, account reconciliation, payroll processing, and general ledger reconciliation.
Demonstrated experience with business intelligence tools for data collection and financial analysis; proficiency in spreadsheets is essential.
Strong understanding of financial report interpretation to support strategic decision-making in corporate accounting environments.
