The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, City and County of Honolulu, is looking to hire Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys at all experience levels.

Whether you are a Hawaii State licensed attorney, out-of-state licensed attorney planning to take the Hawaii State Bar examination or awaiting the results of the Hawaii State Bar examination, or a soon-to-graduate law school student planning to take the Hawaii State Bar examination, you have the credentials and legal foundation to be a successful Deputy Prosecuting Attorney that will provide justice and public safety for the people of Hawaii.

The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney emphasizes training and development of our Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys in all areas of criminal law to have them become a well-rounded attorney. There is no better place in Hawaii to receive trial experience and trial training. If you have only practiced in another area of law, that is not a problem, as you will receive the necessary tools and support to grow and succeed in the family-oriented working environment of the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney. Many attorneys from non-criminal areas of law have joined our Department at varying stages of their attorney career to become successful Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys.

During your employment with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, you will receive regular annual pay increases and additional pay increases as you progress through the various areas of criminal law. You will also be able to pursue promotional opportunities to become a Team Captain or Division Chief for the Department.

Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys’ salaries currently start at $98,124 annually.

Vacation: Employees may earn up to 21 days per year.
Sick Leave: Employees may earn up to 21 days per year.
Holidays: 13 days a year; 14 days during election years.

Parking: Some job locations offer parking on-site; others may have access to parking at low monthly rates.

*Reciprocity for attorneys licensed in other jurisdictions is now available under the Limited License Method for Public Employee (Criminal Law) section of Rule 1 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Hawaii. Reciprocity will be granted to attorneys admitted to practice by the highest court of another state, the District of Columbia, or a territory of the United States, and whose license to practice in that jurisdiction is active, who is a graduate of a law school approved by the American Bar Association Council on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, and who is in good standing in every jurisdiction where the attorney is licensed. However, if you are not admitted to practice law in the state of Hawaii or another state yet, that is not a problem. If you are planning to take the bar exam or are awaiting the bar exam result, we can hire you as a Law Clerk for the time being. Upon passage of the bar exam, you will be immediately hired as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. The current salary for the Law Clerk position is $78,756.00/annually, and it is set to increase annually. You will receive full-benefits as a Law Clerk.
