Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Afterschool Programs is a full-time leadership role responsible for the day-to-day management and development of our enrichment and ELOP (Expanded Learning Opportunities Program) teams. This position leads new hire orientations, team meetings, coaching and performance conversations, and class audits, and serves as the direct supervisor and primary point of contact for enrichment staff members (excluding Masters of the Field). The Assistant Director also plays a key role in program and curriculum development and in planning and facilitating special events.

Key Responsibilities:

New Hire Orientations

Lead all new hire orientations for the enrichment and ELOP programs

Enrichment Team Meetings

Plan, schedule, and lead all enrichment team meetings (excluding Masters of the Field meetings)

Coaching & Disciplinary Meetings

Lead disciplinary meetings, including coaching conversations and written warnings

Staff Supervision

Serve as direct supervisor for enrichment staff members (excluding Masters of the Field staff members)
Act as the primary point of contact for enrichment feedback, concerns, questions, and supply requests

Class Audits

Conduct class audits for enrichment and delegate audits to applicable trainers

Trainer Oversight

Oversee enrichment trainers (excluding Masters of the Field)
Schedule curriculum workshops, on-site trainings, and think tanks with enrichment trainers (excluding Masters of the Field staff members)

Program Development

Serve as a key contributor in enhancing enrichment programs and their curriculum

Special Events

Schedule, plan, and facilitate special events (excluding chess events)

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, recreation, program management, or a related field preferred
3+ years of experience in afterschool, enrichment, or youth program operations, including staff supervision
Experience leading trainings, orientations, or team meetings
Experience coaching staff and managing performance or disciplinary processes preferred
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with email, scheduling tools, and standard office software

Work Schedule & Compensation

Full-time, non-exempt (hourly, overtime-eligible), on-site position
Pay range: $29.33 – $31.25 per hour ($61,000 – $65,000 annualized), commensurate with experience, in accordance with California pay transparency requirements
