Town Clerk / Registrar of Voters
The Town of Mexico is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and customer-service-oriented individual to serve as Town Clerk / Registrar of Voters. This is a full-time municipal position responsible for performing the statutory duties of the Town Clerk.
Primary Responsibilities
The Town Clerk / Registrar of Voters is responsible for a variety of municipal functions, including:
- Serving as the Town's Registrar of Voters and maintaining accurate voter registration records in accordance with Maine law.
- Planning, coordinating, and administering municipal, state, and federal elections.
- Recruiting, scheduling, training, and overseeing election workers.
- Managing absentee voting, voter registration, election materials, and required election reporting.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable election laws, deadlines, and procedures established by the State of Maine.
- Maintaining official Town records, meeting minutes, ordinances, and other permanent municipal documents.
- Issuing marriage licenses, certified vital records, dog licenses, recreational vehicle registrations, and other licenses and permits.
- Providing professional and courteous assistance to residents at the counter, by telephone, and electronically.
- Processing motor vehicle registrations and other transactions as assigned.
- Preparing reports and maintaining records required by state and local law.
- Working collaboratively with Town Office staff and other municipal departments.
- Performing other duties and responsibilities associated with the Office of the Town Clerk.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple statutory deadlines and responsibilities. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, accuracy, and excellent customer service skills.
Municipal clerk and election experience is strongly preferred. Experience as a Registrar of Voters, Deputy Registrar, election clerk, or in another Maine municipal office is highly desirable. Knowledge of Maine election law, the Central Voter Registration (CVR) system, TRIO municipal software, motor vehicle registrations, and vital records is preferred.
Applicants should possess strong computer and communication skills and be comfortable working with the public in a busy municipal office environment. The successful candidate must be willing to attend required training and obtain applicable municipal clerk and election certifications.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time position with a wage range of $24/hr-$30/hr based upon qualifications and municipal experience. The Town offers a comprehensive municipal benefits package, including health insurance, retirement, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, and other benefits provided to eligible Town employees.
