Job Overview

Franklin Miller is seeking an experienced Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of hands on machining experience and be comfortable setting up and operating both CNC and manual machining equipment.

This position is responsible for producing precision components from engineering drawings while maintaining tight tolerances, consistent quality, and efficient production. The successful candidate should be able to work independently from blueprints, perform machine setups, select appropriate tooling, make machining adjustments, and inspect finished parts.

Responsibilities

Set up and operate CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, and manual machining equipment.

Manufacture precision components from engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, tolerances, and GD&T requirements.

Program, edit, and troubleshoot CNC programs using G code and M code.

Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, workholding, offsets, and fixture setup.

Make adjustments to speeds, feeds, tooling, and machining processes as required.

Inspect finished and in process parts to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.

Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, and other inspection tools.

Identify and correct machining, tooling, and setup issues during production.

Perform routine machine maintenance and keep equipment in good working condition.

Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.

Work with engineering and manufacturing personnel to improve machining processes, tooling, fixtures, and production efficiency.

Follow company quality standards, manufacturing procedures, and safety requirements.

Qualifications

3 to 5 years of professional machining experience required.

Demonstrated experience setting up and operating CNC mills and CNC lathes.

Experience with manual mills, lathes, grinders, and other conventional machining equipment.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T.

Experience programming or editing CNC machines using G code and M code.

Strong understanding of machining fundamentals including speeds, feeds, cutting tools, workholding, and material removal.

Proficiency with precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and similar inspection equipment.

Ability to machine parts to close tolerances and consistently produce high quality work.

Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a manufacturing team.

Basic math skills necessary for machining calculations, measurements, offsets, and process adjustments.

Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software is a plus.

Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices is a plus.
