Part-Time Legal Assistant

Smithfield, North Carolina

About Our Firm

We are a growing solo practitioner law firm in Smithfield, North Carolina, dedicated to helping clients with estate planning, estate administration, guardianship, and real estate matters. We pride ourselves on providing personalized legal services and exceptional client care. We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and technology-savvy Legal Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis.

Position Overview

The Legal Assistant will provide administrative and legal support in a fast-paced practice focused on helping individuals and families navigate important life and property matters. The ideal candidate is highly organized, professional, compassionate with clients, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Draft, review, and proofread legal documents, correspondence, deeds, estate planning documents, probate filings, and other legal materials.
Prepare and organize client files using the firm's case management system.
Assist with estate administration, guardianship, and real estate transactions.
File documents electronically with courts and government agencies as required.
Communicate professionally with clients, courts, title companies, financial institutions, and other third parties.
Schedule client meetings, court appearances, and other appointments.
Conduct client intake and gather information necessary for legal matters.
Maintain accurate records and track deadlines.
Provide general administrative and office support, including answering phones and managing correspondence.
Handle confidential client information with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

Proficiency with technology and a willingness to learn new software systems.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong writing and proofreading skills.
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a small-office environment.
Professional communication and customer service skills.
Strong telephone and client relationship skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Experience in a law office, real estate office, title company, estate planning practice, or similar professional environment is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with estate planning, probate/estate administration, guardianship, or real estate matters.
Familiarity with North Carolina court systems and electronic filing.
Experience with legal practice management software and Microsoft Office applications.
