Full Job Description

Mary Bledsoe Design Studio is seeking an experienced finance professional who enjoys creating order, building reliable systems, and helping a growing business operate with confidence.

We are a boutique architecture and interior design studio that believes exceptional design is supported by exceptional operations. This role is about much more than bookkeeping. It is an opportunity to become a trusted member of a small, senior team by owning the day-to-day financial operations that keep the studio running smoothly.

We're looking for someone who enjoys being part of the ongoing rhythm of a business: someone who is responsive, organized, proactive, and takes genuine satisfaction in making sure nothing falls through the cracks.

This is a part-time hybrid position for someone based in Austin, with in-person time in our Austin studio approximately 2-3 times per month.

Primary Responsibilities

Prepare and issue accurate client invoices each month.
Manage accounts receivable and professional payment follow-up.
Coordinate with studio leadership to capture reimbursable expenses and project costs.
Monitor consultant and vendor invoices from receipt through payment.
Enter and maintain financial information accurately in BQE Core.
Maintain organized digital financial records and supporting documentation.
Assist with monthly reconciliations and month-end close.
Coordinate with our external CPA and tax advisors.
Prepare simple management reports and communicate financial information clearly.
Identify missing information, potential issues, and opportunities to improve workflows before they become problems.

The successful candidate will:

Be highly responsive and communicate proactively.
Follow through consistently without needing reminders.
Take ownership of financial workflows from beginning to end.
Help studio leadership stay informed rather than simply processing transactions.
Build systems that make the business stronger as it grows.
Become a trusted operational partner to the leadership team.

Qualifications

7+ years of experience in accounting, financial operations, controllership, or senior bookkeeping.
Experience supporting professional service firms.
Experience with architecture, engineering, design, consulting, legal, or other project-based businesses is strongly preferred.
Experience with BQE Core is highly desirable.
Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
Experience managing both accounts receivable and accounts payable.
High integrity, sound judgment, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Position Details

Part-time position (approximately 10–20 hours per week, flexible based on workload)
Hybrid (remote with in-studio collaboration approximately twice monthly)
Austin / Central Texas candidates only
Employee or contractor arrangement considered
$60 - 75/hour commensurate with experience
