About us

Optometric Technician / Patient Care Coordinator

Full-Time | Optometry Practice | Germantown, Maryland

Germantown Vision Care Center is a busy, modern private optometry practice looking for a friendly, dependable, and motivated team member to join our office. This is a cross-trained position combining optometric technician and front desk/reception responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with patients and wants variety in their workday.

Previous optometry or medical office experience is helpful, but we are willing to train the right person who is organized, personable, comfortable learning new skills, and takes pride in providing excellent patient care.

What You'll Do:

Optometric Technician Responsibilities

Prepare patients for their eye examinations and obtain relevant medical and ocular history
Perform preliminary testing and diagnostic testing as directed by the optometrist
Measure visual acuity and assist with other components of the examination process
Perform ophthalmic diagnostic testing using equipment such as OCT, retinal photography, iCare tonometry, autorefraction/autokeratometry, and corneal topography
Provide contact lens insertion and removal training and assist patients with proper contact lens handling and care
Document information accurately in the electronic medical record
Assist doctors with maintaining an efficient patient flow
Clean and prepare examination rooms and equipment between patients
Educate and assist patients as appropriate throughout their visit

Front Desk / Patient Care Responsibilities:

Greet patients and create a welcoming, professional experience
Answer incoming phone calls and assist patients with scheduling and general questions
Schedule and confirm appointments
Check patients in and out
Verify and enter patient demographic and insurance information
Collect copays, balances, and other patient payments
Communicate clearly with patients regarding appointments, forms, referrals, and office procedures
Help keep the daily schedule organized and flowing efficiently
Assist other team members as needed throughout the office

Remains calm and professional in a busy medical-office environment
Is interested in learning and developing new clinical skills

Experience

Previous experience in optometry, ophthalmology, medical assisting, medical reception, or another patient-facing healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

We are happy to provide training for a strong candidate with the right attitude, communication skills, reliability, and willingness to learn.
