Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Chef to lead the kitchen of our small Italian restaurant. The ideal candidate is passionate about Italian cooking, values fresh and seasonal ingredients, and enjoys working in a close-knit restaurant environment.

Responsibilities

Prepare and execute high-quality Italian dishes with consistency and attention to detail.
Develop and maintain seasonal menus featuring classic Italian flavors and techniques.
Oversee daily kitchen operations, including prep, service, and closing procedures.
Maintain consistent standards for taste, presentation, portion size, and food quality.
Order ingredients and manage relationships with vendors.
Monitor food costs, inventory, waste, and portion control.
Maintain appropriate staffing and kitchen labor levels.
Train, supervise, and support cooks and kitchen staff.
Create prep lists and organize the kitchen for efficient service.
Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen.
Work closely with restaurant management and front-of-house staff to provide an excellent guest experience.
Assist with specials, private events, and seasonal menu changes.

Qualifications

Previous professional kitchen experience, preferably in Italian or Mediterranean cuisine.
Strong knowledge of Italian ingredients, flavors, and traditional cooking techniques.
Experience with pasta, sauces, meats, seafood, vegetables, and seasonal dishes.
Ability to lead a small team while remaining actively involved in cooking and service.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Understanding of food and labor cost management.
Ability to work calmly and efficiently during busy services.
Dependable, professional, and committed to maintaining high standards.
Food handler/food safety certification as required by local regulations.

What We’re Looking For

This is a hands-on chef position, not a purely administrative role. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the kitchen, enjoys cooking alongside the team, and understands how to deliver excellent food while operating a small restaurant efficiently.

The right person will bring creativity and leadership while respecting the simplicity that makes Italian food special: great ingredients, proper technique, consistency, and hospitality.

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
