Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Head Lifting Sports Coach and assigned Athletic Administrator, this coach is responsible for supporting all areas of the lifting sports program, including development. This position abides by the rules and regulations established by Concordia University, Nebraska (CUNE), the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC), and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). This position will also involve strength and conditioning programming and instruction.
Responsibilities:
Assistant Lifting Sports Coach
- Assists the Head Coach (HC) in organizing, preparing, instructing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition using sound principles and judgment consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the CUNE Athletic Department.
- Assists in coaching all sports practices throughout the season, as well as administering and readily providing attendance records at all practices.
- Helps with identifying potential student athletes for the men's and women's lifting sports program, in accordance with CUNE, GPAC, and NAIA regulations, guidelines, and policies.
- Recruits prospective student-athletes who adhere to the NAIA Champions of Character initiatives and who strive for academic achievement, competitive greatness, and spiritual/character development.
- Assists and supports the HC in monitoring and reinforcing all institutional, conference, and NAIA bylaws and regulations.
- Actively participates in implementing and/or designing a retention plan as determined by the HC of the respective athletic program.
- Assists with team scheduling, team travel arrangements, evaluating talent of prospective and returning student-athletes, promoting, and marketing the assigned athletic program, scouting opponents, and fundraising, upon direction of the HC.
- Fosters, assists, and leads interactions that inspire spiritual and character development through one-on-one student and staff relations and that build a cohesive and positive team culture at CUNE.
- Provides direct supervision, technical instruction, programming, and applies motivational techniques that inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential during assigned team workouts.
- Serve as a messenger and teacher of the Christian faith and lead students to grow in the knowledge and love of Christ.

Strength and Conditioning Coach
- Provides guidance and training in the area of strength and conditioning for all coaches, student-athletes, and athletic teams.
- Provides counsel to coaches and teams on proper nutritional health, supplement education, the importance of sleep, and the rest needed throughout the build-up, maintenance, and recovery periodization phases of the human performance cycle.
- Design and implement strength and conditioning programs for assigned sports, regularly testing the student-athlete progress.
- Provide direct supervision, technical instruction, and motivational techniques that inspire student-athletes to reach their full potential during assigned team workouts.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education-
- Bachelor's degree required.
Experience-
- 3-5 years of experience directly related to the essential functions.
- 2-5 years of experience as an assistant coach in Higher Ed or high school coach preferred.
Certifications-
- Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
- USA Weightlifting (USAW) preferred
- Valid driver's license and ability to maintain University's driver certification.
Specialized Knowledge-
- Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn and utilize other software applications as necessary.
Proficiencies-
- Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing.

- Budget preparation and budget management skills and abilities.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements.
