Full Job Description

TITLE: City Clerk

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Clerk’s Office

NUMBER OF VACANCIES: One (1) Appointed

Salary: $61,200/year

**Must be a Niagara Falls, NY resident within 6 months of appointment**

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES; Within policies established by the City Council, is responsible for carrying out the statutory and other legal responsibilities of the City Clerk.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Work involves acting as Clerk of the City Council, serving as official custodian of council papers, books and other documents. The employee in this class administers oaths to municipal appointees, directs the registration of vital statistics, and supervises the issuance of a variety of licenses. Work is carried out with substantial independence in daily operations and is reviewed by reports and conferences.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Acts as clerk of the City Council; attends all council meeting; serves as custodian of council papers and books; administers required oath to municipal appointees;

Notifies election inspectors of registration, primary, and election dates; conducts municipal election tally and tabulation;

Supervises the collection and registration of vital statistics in the City;

Supervises and participates in the countersigning and issuance of a variety of licenses;

Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of standard office management practices; knowledge of the legal requirements for issuing licenses; ability to plan and direct the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with the public; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with council members, city officers, and members of the public.

(A) Graduation from a standard high school, preferably supplemented by courses in business; experience in office management

(B) Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Pay: $61,200.00 per year
