Full Job Description

CAYA Clinic in Madison, WI is currently seeking a Clinical Supervisor/MH SUD Counselor to join our team of passionate harm reduction professionals. CAYA Clinic provides affordable treatment options for people who use drugs that would like to use safer, moderate their use, change their relationship with substances, or receive mental health, eating disorder, or trauma therapies with no abstinence requirements.

Mission: To meet people who use drugs in Wisconsin where they are and utilize evidence-based harm reduction therapy techniques to reduce drug-related harms, prevent overdose, and promote the empowerment of people who use drugs. CAYA provides services to all regardless of health insurance status. All participants will have access to harm reduction supplies in addition to therapy and peer services. CAYA has a special emphasis on serving historically marginalized communities.

Vision: To end overdose and drug-related harms in Wisconsin by creating a community of people who use drugs that are committed to caring for themselves and each other.

Position Summary

The Clinical Supervisor/MH SUD Counselor is a dual-function role responsible for both high-level clinical supervision and direct client care. This individual will carry their own caseload and provide assessment, intake, treatment planning, and individual/group counseling. Simultaneously, they provide clinical supervision to pre-licensed staff and interns, ensuring all therapeutic activities meet the highest standards of harm reduction psychotherapy, ethics and regulatory compliance.

Core Supervisory Responsibilities

● Clinical Oversight: Provide direct clinical supervision for interns and licensed-trainee counselors (e.g., SAC-IT, APSW, LPC-IT, MFT-IT) to support their development and path toward full licensure.

● Case Review: Conduct regular reviews of clinical documentation and client files to ensure compliance with DHS 75.50 requirements and other state/federal regulations.

● Multidisciplinary Leadership: Collaborate with the Clinical Director and Director of Operations to facilitate team meetings and coordinate care across a team of clinical and administrative staff.

● Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all program activities and staff documentation align with local, state, and federal policies.

Primary Counseling Functions

● Direct Care: Perform individual and group counseling sessions.

● Clinical Documentation: Complete comprehensive intake, admission, discharge, and transfer paperwork, documenting all client progress accurately.

● Client Advocacy: Assist and empower clients in filing grievances or complaints and act as a representative of their best interests as defined by the client. Participate in multi-disciplinary teams and advocate for and with clients.

● Referral Management: Coordinate with local agencies to provide necessary external referrals to aid in the holistic treatment of each client.

Candidate Qualifications

● Education: Minimum of a Master's Degree in Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.

● Licensure: Full licensure (LCSW, LMFT, or LPC) with eligibility to provide supervision under DSPS.

● Experience: Substantial experience in the treatment of substance use, mental health, and co-occurring conditions. Preference for individuals demonstrating expertise in substance use services.

● Specialization: Deep commitment to social justice, harm reduction, and trauma-informed, empowered client care. Commitment to continued learning and ongoing development of harm reduction practices.

Essential Skills and Abilities

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills required to work within a multidisciplinary team and to support a position of leadership within the agency.

● Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

● Ability to work independently and responsibly manage supervisory and clinical duties.

● Reliable, dependable, and dedicated to working collaboratively with diverse populations.

● Organizational skills for managing administrative tasks and training other staff to manage their administrative tasks.
