Full Job Description

As our practice continues to grow, we are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Billing & Coding Specialist to join our administrative team. This is an opportunity to become part of a collaborative organization that values professionalism, continuous improvement, and delivering an exceptional patient experience.

Position Summary

The Billing & Coding Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity of our practice. This position is responsible for reviewing provider documentation for billing readiness, submitting and monitoring claims, resolving denials, maintaining payer credentialing, and supporting patients with insurance and billing questions.

The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and committed to accuracy. They thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment, enjoy solving complex billing issues, and take ownership of seeing problems through to resolution.

Key Responsibilities

Review provider documentation and encounters to ensure accurate and timely billing.
Investigate, resolve, and appeal denied or unpaid insurance claims.
Identify and correct billing discrepancies while maintaining compliance with payer requirements.
Verify patient insurance benefits and coverage for new and existing patients.
Meet with patients regarding insurance benefits, payment options, balances, and payment plans.
Process patient payments and maintain accurate financial records.
Monitor remittances, payments, and outstanding claims, following up as necessary.
Prepare and send patient statements for copays, deductibles, coinsurance, and outstanding balances.
Complete insurance credentialing and recredentialing for new providers.
Monitor insurance policy updates and payer guideline changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
Maintain accurate patient insurance information and update records as needed.
Collaborate with providers, administrative staff, and insurance representatives to resolve complex billing issues.
Assist with additional revenue cycle and administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree in Medical Billing & Coding, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of two years of medical billing, coding, revenue cycle, or healthcare administrative experience.
Working knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and insurance billing processes.
Strong computer proficiency and experience working with electronic medical record (EMR/EHR) systems.
Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while maintaining accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience with behavioral health or psychiatric billing.
Experience with provider credentialing and insurance enrollment.
Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, and Wisconsin Medicaid billing.
Medical Billing & Coding certification (CPC, CPB, or equivalent).
