Full Job Description

We are currently looking for a Part Time Occupational Therapist to specifically work with our pediatric population.

Job Summary:

The Occupational Therapist will carry out an individualized program including evaluation and assessment, treatment, planning, implementation, education, and communication to maximize a patient's progress toward achieving set functional goals, and reintegrating into the community. The Occupational Therapist will maintain a positive working relationship with the Team of other health professionals and ancillary staff.

Essential Functions:

· Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehab Aides, and Occupational Therapist and/or Occupational Therapy Assistant students.

· Provides consultation in areas such as environmental design, adaptive equipment, proper positioning of patients to prevent contractures and splinting.

· Administers and documents results of evaluations of assigned patients in accordance with departmental and/or company standards.

· Designs and fabricates splints as specified by doctors' prescriptions; designs and/or fabricates slings and adaptive equipment to meet the needs of patients and/or their families.

· Remains focused on primary goal for optimal patient care, as well as on the importance of optimizing productivity as it pertains to business operations.

· Abides strictly by hospital, departmental, and/or company policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

· Maintains timely and accurate patient records and reports.

· Designs, modifies and administers treatment programs to increase patients' levels of functioning.

· Instructs patients in adaptive techniques and the use of adaptive equipment for meal preparation, home management, dressing, feeding, and other self-care skills.

· Provides therapy for neurological integration; administers sensorimotor integration treatment techniques and visual perceptual-motor remediation programs.

· Administers treatment programs to traumatic brain-injured patients. Uses activities to improve judgment skills, reality orientation, and organizational skills.

· Administers pre-vocational programs to prepare patients to return to, or enter a work setting. Provides activities to assess patients' organizational skills, attention span, cognitive abilities, and coordination (fine and gross-motor)

· Designs home programs and instructs patients or families in carrying out such programs.

· Participates in patient support groups with other team members.

Qualifications/Skills:

· Must have good oral communication skills to promote a strong provider-patient interaction, as well as for clear and concise Team conversations/interactions.

· Must be computer literate with good written/typed communication skills for optimal and justifiable documentation for the referring providers and insurance companies alike.

· Must be competent in performing Occupational Therapy assessments, designing treatment plans, and operating necessary equipment.

· Must have strong customer service and organizational skills, as well as sound judgment.

· Must be able to work independently with clients and members of the interdisciplinary team.

· Must be able to demonstrate safe and appropriate practices with regards to patient care.

· Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Must have strong supervisory and leadership skills.

· Must have the ability to use necessary tools to fabricate adaptive equipment as needed.

Education/ Experience Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university required.

· Certification or registered with the State OT Board and current Licensure based in the State(s) of practice required.

· One to two years previous experience in a hospital/outpatient setting preferred.

Working Conditions:

· May engage in activity that would involve lifting equipment used in patient care, etc.

· Requires lifting, positioning and transferring patients.

· May require frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

· Potential for exposure to infectious diseases and human waste products.

· Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
