Full Job Description

Private Butler in Washington, DC

Live on

A gracious private household in Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Butler to support the principal and work alongside a lovely, established, and service-minded team.

Spacious and private accommodation on-property with a separate entrance is provided.

Responsibilities:

Partner with the household team to maintain a polished, orderly residence and complete daily household service tasks
Provide driving support for appointments, events, and occasional travel between residences
Support gracious entertaining, including formal and informal service for the principal and guests
Prepare simple, light meals or breakfast items when the Chef is off
Assist with household laundry
Clear and professional communication with the team to ensure seamless household operations
Occasional travel to a secondary residence is required

Qualifications:

Five+ years of private service experience in a comparable household, luxury hospitality, yacht, or similar high-touch environment, with excellent verifiable references
Prior live-on or residential accommodation experience a plus
Polished presentation and an appreciation for refined household service
Strong professional boundaries, sound judgment, and discretion
Collaborative, flexible, and willing to pitch in wherever needed
Self-directed and attentive to the details that keep a residence looking its best
Comfortable with a flexible schedule, including early weekend starts
Adaptable and able to pivot gracefully with the principal and team
Able to stand for extended periods during events and lift 40 to 50 pounds

Schedule:

Generally, Wednesday through Sunday with Monday and Tuesday off. This may change at times to accommodate the principals’ schedule.
Daily hours are coordinated with the household team to ensure consistent coverage.

Compensation:

Our client is prepared to offer salary up to $140,000, commensurate with experience.
Benefits include fully funded medical insurance, annual discretionary bonus, paid time off, paid holidays, and more.
Relocation assistance may be available for the right candidate.
