About Us

A Financial Communications leader is hiring a Controller to serve as a cornerstone of the finance and operations team. This position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer and will oversee all financial reporting, internal controls, cash management, and strategic growth planning across the Company's business entities. The Controller will produce necessary, timely and accurate information used in the day-to-day and long-term management of the business and will oversee the day-to-day accounting function. This role will also manage the company’s contracts and vendor agreements and collaborate with HR on supporting staff and office management needs. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience overseeing the financial affairs of a company and will possess a keen intellect, unquestioned ethics, a sense of urgency and the ability to simultaneously execute on both routine operations and strategic projects within a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. Company is targeting candidates in the SF Bay Area.

Salary starting at $160,000 per year + discretionary annual bonus

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Own the preparation of monthly financial statements across the Company's business entities and analytics of results versus forecast and budget. Provide commentary highlighting key takeaways and variances.

· Highlight any trends or issues within the business.

· Own and oversee the monthly closing process, including timely client billing and vendor payments.

· Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.

· Own intercompany accounting, including expense and revenue recharges, due-to/due-from balances and related reconciliations.

· Prepare annual budgets and forecasts and update outlooks monthly.

· Prepare monthly commission calculations.

· Supervise payroll processing and related reconciliations.

· Monitor accounts receivable on a weekly basis to ensure timely collection of client receivables and escalate collection issues.

· Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts.

· Maintain an effective system of internal controls and documented accounting processes.

· Lead and coordinate external audit, tax and other reporting support, preparing necessary reports and analyses for auditors, accountants and consultants.

· Perform financial analyses and lead finance and operations projects as needed.

· Manage contracts and vendor agreements.

· Serve as a key contact for managing partners as well as broader staff for client contracts, client onboarding, staff commissions and other financial and operational matters.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or finance required.

· 8+ years of experience managing the financial affairs of a company in an accounting leadership position. Professional services industry and/or agency experience a plus but not essential. Prior experience in financial services businesses preferred but not required.

· Candidate should possess strong knowledge of accounting and finance theory, with hands-on experience in multi-entity accounting and finance operations.

· Ability to interact with senior management and efficiently provide a wide range of reporting and analytical information as well as advice on issues facing the business.

· Practical knowledge and experience in analyzing financial statements and experience in preparing and assessing budgets and forecasts.

· Advanced Excel and QuickBooks Online skills required; experience with Rippling or a similar payroll/HRIS platform preferred.

· Proven leader and natural strategic thinker

· Willingness to participate as a team player—putting ego aside and rolling up sleeves to dive into the details
