We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Program Director – Residential Services to oversee the operations of our residential programs throughout Alabama. This executive leadership role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and exceptional service delivery across multiple community-based residential homes.

Position Summary
The Program Director provides strategic and operational leadership for 12 community residential group homes serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and mental health diagnoses.
This position ensures compliance with all Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) standards, Medicaid Waiver regulations, HCBS requirements, and agency policies while leading multidisciplinary teams in providing exceptional, person-centered care.
The Program Director serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for driving quality outcomes, operational efficiency, staff development, and regulatory readiness.
Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Operations
- Provide direct operational oversight for 12 residential group homes.
- Supervise Residential Coordinators, QDDPs, Program Managers, and other leadership staff.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, scheduling, overtime management, and on-call coverage.
- Develop and mentor leadership staff through coaching, accountability, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) standards
- Medicaid Waiver requirements
- HCBS Settings Rule
- Federal and State regulations
- Agency policies and procedures
- Maintain survey readiness at all times.
- Prepare for and successfully manage licensing inspections, certification reviews, and ADMH surveys.
- Develop and monitor corrective action plans for identified deficiencies.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct routine site visits and operational audits.
- Monitor documentation for accuracy and compliance, including:
- Person-Centered Plans (PCPs)
- Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
- Medication Administration Records (MARs)
- Incident Reports
- Clinical Documentation
- Implement quality improvement initiatives that enhance service delivery and compliance.
Clinical & Program Oversight
- Collaborate with nursing staff, behavioral professionals, physicians, guardians, support coordinators, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure implementation of person-centered services that promote health, safety, independence, and quality of life.
- Lead investigations involving:
- Abuse or neglect allegations
- Medication errors
- Critical incidents
- Other reportable events
Financial & Administrative Management
- Monitor departmental budgets and ensure responsible utilization of agency resources.
- Review operational reports and performance metrics.
- Recommend strategies that improve efficiency and service outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in residential services serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or behavioral health populations.
- Demonstrated experience managing residential programs regulated by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
- Strong knowledge of:

- Proven ability to manage multiple residential locations and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Valid Alabama driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing multiple residential programs or group homes.
- Experience with licensing reviews and state surveys.
- Knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems and residential documentation platforms.
- Experience implementing quality assurance initiatives.
- Strong background in staff development and leadership coaching.
