Full Job Description

Job Title: Production Planner

Department: Manufacturing

Status: Full Time

Reporting To: Local Business Unit Leader

Position Purpose:

The Production Planner is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing production schedules to support on-time delivery, efficient use of capacity, and balanced inventory levels. This role partners closely with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, and Demand teams to translate customer requirements into executable production plans while managing constraints across labor, equipment, and materials. The Production Planner serves as a key coordination point between business units to ensure accurate, timely, and reliable production execution.

Responsibilities:

Scheduling & Coordination

Develop and maintain short- and long-term production schedules to support customer delivery commitments
Adjust schedules as priorities, lead times, and operational constraints change
Track work-in-process and proactively escalate risks before they impact customer delivery
Release and manage production orders, ensuring dates, quantities, and priorities are accurate
Support schedule stability while responding appropriately to changes and expedites

Capacity & Planning

Partner with the Production Supervisor on capacity planning by analyzing demand, forecasts, labor availability, material readiness, and equipment constraints
Evaluate tradeoffs when conflicts arise and recommend the best executable production plan
Identify capacity risks and support mitigation planning

Materials, Orders & Systems

Coordinate timing of incoming raw materials and assist Purchasing with scheduling outside processes
Monitor purchase and sales orders to ensure they are complete and ready for production
Maintain accurate planning and scheduling data; correct errors and ensure data integrity
Support inventory management by reviewing assigned inventory items and aligning inventory levels with margin and production objectives

Communication & Collaboration

Act as the primary scheduling point of contact between Production, Purchasing, Demand Planning, Engineering, and other business units
Clearly communicate schedule changes, risks, delays, and recovery plans to internal stakeholders
Balance competing priorities and communicate tradeoffs in a fast-paced production environment

Continuous Improvement

Identify opportunities to improve scheduling accuracy, sequencing, material flow, and on-time delivery
Participate in Lean and continuous improvement activities supporting safety, quality, service, and cost objectives
Prepare reports, visuals, and summaries to support planning meetings and performance reviews
Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum High School Diploma; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Operations, Business, or a related field preferred
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a production environment
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask
Basic math, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
Experience working with ERP and/or CRM systems
Strong attention to detail and data accuracy
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Self-starter with the ability to follow defined plans while adapting to changing conditions
Strong internal customer service orientation and team mindset

Working Conditions and Health & Safety:

Heated and air-conditioned office environment.
Employee is required to use appropriate PPE including, but not limited to, nitrile or latex gloves, lab coat, hair bonnet, shoe covers, beard cover, safety glasses, hearing protection, face shield, or respiratory mask while working in a lab or manufacturing space

Harland Medical System’s commitment to ensure employee health and safety is a priority. Personnel engaged in manufacturing shall obtain training required by ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR part 820, FDA 21 CFR part 210 & 211, and Harland Medical System’s internal procedures, where deemed appropriate per assigned job functions.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk on level surfaces for a prolonged period of time. The employee is frequently required to talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms above shoulder height and below the waist. This position may occasionally be exposed to areas that require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
