Full Job Description

Position Overview

We are looking for someone to take ownership of growing the district in the key areas of fundraising, membership growth, and volunteer development. This is a relationship-driven sales and development role where success is measured by results, growth, and community impact—not by time spent at a desk. The position requires a high level of personal initiative, flexibility, and ownership. Evening and weekend meetings are common as you work with community leaders, donors, volunteers, and organizations throughout the district. Rather than a traditional 40-hour workweek, this position requires managing your schedule to accomplish goals and deliver results.

Scouting Executives are a diverse group, sharing a dynamic career offering independence, achievement, and stability. The executive is the manager of the Scouting non-profit in a designated district in the Northern Lights Council. Must be willing to live in Fargo/West Fargo, ND or Moorhead, MN. We are looking for someone to take ownership of growing the district in the key areas of finance, membership, and volunteer development – this is not a clock-in clock-out type of job and involves seasonal travel within the district. This is an entry-level position that will most likely require relocating to another location to be able to advance in the organization.

This position is comparable to an outside sales, business development, or territory management role within the nonprofit sector. Successful executives build relationships, identify opportunities, recruit volunteers, increase membership, secure financial support, and grow Scouting's presence in their assigned territory. Individuals with backgrounds in sales, fundraising, recruiting, marketing, customer relationship management, or business development often excel in this position.

Salary: $50,000

Responsibilities

Recruits, develops, trains, and oversees effective volunteers to achieve success in the specific responsibility area. Ensure volunteers are delivering quality Scouting programs to charter members, youth and the community. Includes recruiting, developing, and leading the district nominating committee as well as participating in district Key 3 meetings.
Maintains a professional working climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top-quality volunteers.
Works within a long-range strategy to achieve the district's mission and to make consistent, timely progress.
Responsible for meeting annual fundraising, membership growth, and volunteer recruitment goals. Develop and maintain relationships with donors, community leaders, businesses, service organizations, schools, churches, and volunteers to expand Scouting's impact and achieve district objectives.
Serves as a district spokesperson for the council to ensure that it is properly represented to the public.
Works with his/her supervisor to make the district structure function effectively.
Other job-related duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Qualifications

Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
Attained 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.

Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that frequently includes evenings and weekends. This position operates independently and requires self-discipline, initiative, and a results-oriented mindset to meet fundraising, membership, and volunteer development goals.

Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.
Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.
Work with volunteer leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment and training, fundraising, membership recruitment and retention.
Be responsible for extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations through volunteers.
Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned areas. Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.
Recruit leadership for finance campaign efforts to meet the financial needs of the organization.
Ensure that all program sites are served through volunteers, regular leader meetings, training events and activities.
Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee the achievement of training for their respective role.
Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public.
Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events and activities.
Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieve specific objectives.
Must live in the area you serve, with a preference of Fargo/West Fargo, ND or Moorhead, MN.

Desired Skills:

Strong marketing, fund-raising and program development background is highly desired.

Demonstrated success in sales, fundraising, account management, recruiting, marketing, business development, customer service, or relationship management is highly preferred.

Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible, and creative.
Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.

Work Environment

Territory-based position with significant autonomy and schedule flexibility.
Success is measured by achievement of goals and district growth, not by a traditional 40-hour workweek.
Regular evening and weekend meetings with volunteers, donors, community leaders, and families.
Seasonal travel throughout the district is required.
