Location:

This full-time position may be based at Monroe’s Bronx campus near Fordham Road and Jerome Avenue or at our downtown New Rochelle campus, depending on the successful candidate’s preference.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented PR & Stakeholder Engagement Specialist to join our Public Relations team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help bring the Monroe story to life by spotlighting the achievements, impact, and success of our students and alumni.

Reporting to the Vice President for Public Affairs, the Specialist will collaborate closely with colleagues across the University to develop compelling communications for key external audiences, including high school leadership, government partners, elected officials, and other strategic stakeholders. Content will be crafted for a range of platforms, including email communications, website features, media relations outreach, and the University’s LinkedIn presence. For clarity, this is not a social media–focused position.

This is an in-person role. Being embedded in the University community allows for direct engagement with students and colleagues and ensures a strong pulse on daily campus life and the meaningful stories unfolding across Monroe.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and communicator, an attentive listener, and a proactive self-starter who enjoys building relationships and translating real-world success stories into impactful, audience-focused content. Recent graduates and candidates with early professional or internship experience in public relations, communications, journalism, or related fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Experience in higher education, community engagement, or stakeholder communications is terrific -- but not required.

Key responsibilities include:

Developing clear, engaging written content for distribution to high school counselors, government stakeholders, and other external partners;
Helping tell the “Monroe story” by identifying and highlighting student and alumni success stories;
Building rapport with members of the Monroe community to surface compelling story ideas;
Interviewing students, alumni, and staff to gather information and insights for written communications;
Drafting email updates and story summaries to share with relevant third-parties about the accomplishments of Monroe community members;
Supporting broader communications and public relations initiatives as needed; and
Responding to stakeholder inquiries in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree (preferably in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or English);
Minimum of two years of relevant public relations experience;
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills;
Skill, passion, and energy for public relations work;
Proven ability to work collaboratively, collegially, and effectively with colleagues; and
Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet established deadlines.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
