Position Summary
Operates the HMI from the Control Room to monitor and control boiler and emissions control equipment, as well as utility systems that support the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally responsible production of OCE steam and electricity under the direction of a Process Engineer or Shift Supervisor.
Essential Job Duties

Properly operate control room, boilers, demineralization, compressed air, and the circulating dry scrubber system during routine, abnormal, and emergency operations.

Communicate information clearly, including orally, written and electronically.
- Remotely assist maintenance personnel in safe performance of maintenance activities.
- Troubleshoot equipment to resolve operational problems and communicate immediately all problems to the Shift Supervisor.
- Generate and review work orders for execution of equipment repairs.
- Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend and input data

Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as detailed by plant operational procedures.
- Completes production logs, shift reports, inputs downtime into the system and completes all other data entry requirements for plant records as instructed by plant operational procedures.
- Observes variations in operating conditions, interprets instrumentation readings and acts in a proper and safe manner in response to such conditions. Immediately informs shift supervisor of all out-of-control conditions or equipment malfunctions.

Supports management with special projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proficient at Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to perform flow, pressure, performance and meter calculations

Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals

Use hand and power tools

Communicate conditions of plant systems and equipment to others
- Work without direct supervision while performing assigned duties

Take, record and analyze various readings of electrical and mechanical meters

Knowledge of and the ability to operate various switches, control devices, and valves and the effect each has on total plant operations
Education and Experience
-
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial plant operations.

Associate’s degree in process operating or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Physical Requirements

May sit for extended amount of time in office in front of computer.

May work outdoors which may include extreme working conditions and inclement weather conditions.

As needed, lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 35 lbs.

Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas.

Must be able to handle working with petroleum coke products and use respiratory protection

Able to work in dusty environment

Must be able to work with hand tools

Must be able to load and unload equipment, either with manual labor or by operating machinery.

Must train in safety requirements at the facility.

Must be required to move about to coordinate work.

Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts

Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of verbal or written word to impart information to contractors and to convey detailed Instructions to other workers.
